Robin Thicke Hits The Football Field With Kendrick Lamar For ‘Give It 2 U’ Video

After creating a phenomenon with his VMA-nominated visuals for “Blurred Lines,” Robin Thicke once again tapped director Diane Martel to make magic in the upcoming video for “Give It 2 U,” which will premiere Friday (August 23) at 7:53 p.m. on MTV, immediately followed by a live interview with Thicke on MTV.com.

The singer filmed his new video with Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz in Los Angeles earlier this month, and MTV News was on set to capture some behind-the-scenes action. “Well, I can’t tell you everything that’s going on, but what I do know is we have a cotton candy lady [and] we have three gorgeous football players dropping it like it’s hot,” Thicke said on the video set, flanked by four women in costume.

The video was shot on a sunny football field, and our cameras caught Thicke and Lamar riding around on mini trucks with women on their laps. “It’s a Diane Martel dream, and I’m just happy to be here,” Thicke added, giving props to the director who dreamed up his sexy and controversial “Blurred Lines” video. “The thing about Diane Martel that makes it so amazing — besides just being a crazy genius — is that she combines all different parts of the world into one soup. She takes the cotton candy, she takes the beautiful football-playing girls and she mixes it all up into one beautiful pot. So we’re all very lucky to have her and excited to be working with her again.”

K-Dot looked right at home cruising across the 25-yard line on the football field. “Kendrick is driving mini monster trucks, and he’s a genius. We’re just excited to have him here, to have him on the song and as part of this video,” Thicke said, giving a shout-out to his co-star. “Thank you so much, Kendrick Lamar, for your brilliance and for having a good time today and playing sport.”

Robin Thicke’s “Give It 2 U” video premieres exclusively on MTV Friday (August 23), at 7:53 p.m., followed by an exclusive 30-minute interview with Sway Calloway on MTV.com as part of MTV’s All Access Live Experience.
