Selena Gomez To Her ‘Tough’ Best Pop Competition? Come & Get It!

Selena Gomez isn’t sure she’ll go home with a Moonman come Sunday when the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards go live from Brooklyn, but she sure is proud of her VMA-nominated video for “Come & Get It.”

The Anthony Mandler-directed clip is up for Best Pop Video at the VMAs, where it faces competition from Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors,” fun.’s “Carry On” and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop.”

“It’s tough competition,” Gomez told MTV News. “Honestly, I was so stoked. I didn’t even realize I was nominated until my friend texted me. I was really stoked, and my fans Instagrammed and Twittered me. It was really sweet. So, I’m stoked. I’m excited. I’ve gone to the show a couple of times, so to actually be on the other side is gonna be exciting for me.”

Gomez shows off a more mature side of herself in the video, which features her dancing in the sand and cavorting around a grassy field in flowing dresses. Will that be enough to earn her a KAWS-designed Moonman? “I don’t know about my chances. We’ll see,” she shared. “We’ll see if I win, but I think it’s a beautiful video, and Anthony did such a great job with it. So, honestly, I feel like it stands on its own. I’m very proud of it.”

In addition to Best Pop Video, Gomez is also up for Best Song of the Summer for “Come & Get It.”

To see if Gomez goes home a winner, tune into the VMAs when they go live Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT from Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The Stars Dance singer will be on hand as a presenter, joining One Direction and Taylor Swift. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Drake, Kanye West and more have all been confirmed to perform at the big event.
