Dreams do come true, even for misguided billionaires like John Hammond.
Colin Trevorrow, director of the upcoming “Jurassic World,” has confirmed recent rumors about the plot and details of the next film in the “Jurassic” series. His interview with Slash Film, posted late last night, pulled the curtain back on how dinosaurs are back in the mix following the events of the first three “Jurassic Park” movies, what Chris Pratt’s character is all about, and much more.

1. “Jurassic World” is the “Disney World” of Dinosaurs
Twenty-two years after the events of “Jurassic Park,” John Hammond’s dreams for a dinosaur-filled amusement park have been realized. According to Trevorrow, the titular Jurassic World is “a fully functional park on Isla Nublar” that sees 20,000 visitors every day, arriving by ferry from Costa Rica.
Jurassic World has all of the characteristics of great theme parks: Luxury resorts with hotels, restaurants, golf courses and more. The only difference between this park and others is that at Jurassic World, there are dinosaurs — lots of them.
“You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible,” according to Trevorrow.
2. Dino Disillusionment
For Trevorrow and his creative team, one of the key ideas behind “Jurassic World” is the “seen it, over it” nature of culture today. In a world where high-speed Internet access can show you everything you want to know in the blink of an eye, where the right amount of money can buy you just about anything, is the resurrection of dinosaurs really such a big deal?
“We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass,” said Trevorrow. “For us, that image captured the way much of the audience feels about the movies themselves. ‘We’ve seen CG dinosaurs. What else you got?’ Next year, you’ll see our answer.”
3. Chris Pratt, Dinosaur Whisperer
Exact details on the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor’s role in the film remain under wraps, but some key information has come to light, thanks to Trevorrow. According to the director, Pratt’s character performs “behavioral research on the raptors” of Jurassic World.
“He’s just trying to figure out the limits of the relationship between these highly intelligent creatures and human beings,” said Trevorrow — but that doesn’t mean Pratt’s character is training raptors to perform tricks or anything.
4. Forget Good versus Evil
One rumor suggested that some of the dinosaurs of “Jurassic World” would actually be sympathetic to the human cause, but Trevorrow dismissed that notion by saying there are no “good or bad dinosaurs.”
“There are predators and prey,” he clarified. “This film is about our relationship with animals, how we react to the threat they pose to our dominance on earth as a species. We hunt them, we cage them in zoos, we admire them from afar and we try to assert control over them.”
5. A New Dinosaur
Trevorrow also confirmed rumors that there’s an entirely new, genetically-modified dinosaur in the mix with “Jurassic World,” created by the park’s scientists. This unnamed dinosaur is created using DNA from other species in order to offer attendees a creature that is “bigger, louder, with more teeth.”
The filmmaker acknowledged some skepticism over the idea of a modified dinosaur, but asked for fans to keep an open mind.
“This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level,” he said. “For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film.”
“Jurassic World” opens on June 12, 2015.
