The Beastie Boys‘ landmark sophomore album, Paul’s Boutique, is twenty-five years old this year. As you’ll recall, the cover art featured a photo from the corner of Manhattan’s Rivington and Ludlow, and now the famous intersection will boast a mural paying homage to the Beasties.
Brooklyn artist Danielle Mastrion began painting the mural, which was spearheaded by hip-hop fan LeRoy McCarthy, on Saturday (July 26).
Last summer, the late Adam “MCA” Yauch was honored when Brooklyn Heights’ Palmetto Park was renamed after him. Surviving members Ad Rock and Mike D have been working on a memoir, which is slated for release in 2015.
New York wouldn’t be the same without them, this mural will help honor their legacy. RIP MCA, we’ll never forget you.
