Biggest Week Ever
By notching its biggest sales week to date thanks to a 94 percent increase, “Frozen” easily took #1 for a record-setting 11th week
, besting the previous mark set by “The Lion King.” With sales of nearly 259,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan, “Frozen” chugs past the 2.3 million mark, easily making it the year’s best seller to date.
No One Else Is Even Close
Despite four new faces in the top five, nobody else even came close to pushing “Frozen” off its icy perch. Singer August Alsina’s debut, Testimony, will come in at #2 (67,000), rockers NEEDTOBREATHE’s Rivers in the Wasteland at #3 (49,000) and Jason DeRulo’s career-high debut for Talk Dirty at #4 (44,000). Rounding out the top five is Ingrid Michaelson’s latest, Lights Out, which moved almost 37,000 copies.
Eight months into its chart run, Lorde’s Pure Heroine got another healthy bump, jumping up 62 percent and four spots to #8 on sales of 26,000, putting her on the cusp of 1.2 million in sales.
Nas Is Still Ill
The 20th anniversary re-issue of Nas’ landmark Illmatic
album drops in at #14 on sales of 15,000, just behind the Disney karaoke album of “Frozen” songs (#17, 15,000).
Lana Del Rey Reps Hard For The “West Coast”
The view from the top is pretty much the same this week on the Billboard Digital Songs chart, with Pharrell’s “Happy” tapping out its 10th week at #1 (247,000), for the longest run on that chart since “Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” wrapped up a two-hander on August 24, 2013.
John Legend’s “All of Me” holds at #2 (214,000), DeRulo’s “Talk Dirty” sits at #3 (198,000) and Idina Menzel’s “Frozen” smash “Let It Go” holds at #4 (158,000). The big news, though, was the best debut sales week to date for Lana Del Rey, who crashed the boards at #6 with “West Coast” (118,000), the first single from her upcoming Ultraviolence album.
