T.I. has proven himself quite the actor. He turned heads in his starring role in the 2006 drama “ATL” and held his own alongside Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe in “American Gangster.” Now, Tip is back in front of the camera as fashion designer and former drug dealer Lucas Frye in Showtime’s “House of Lies.”
“They really just threw a line out to see if I’d be interested and once I learned the diverse nature of the role and how much depth that the character had, it was a no-brainer,” T.I. said of the role where he gets to play alongside series star Don Cheadle and Mekhi Phifer.
“It was really an honor and a pleasure to work alongside such well-trained and highly skilled actors, and not to mention the writers and the directors, and just to be affiliated in the Showtime family,” he continued.
As Frye, T.I. has to navigate his way through a shady business world.
“Lucas’ backstory is he’s a young man who came from nothing. Nobody ever thought he’d make it in anything and no one wanted to let him in. No one gave him a shot, so he took it. And when he took it and he made it, he’d never let anyone else tell him anything that he can and cannot do,” Tip explained. “He’ll never let anyone tell him that their way is better than his. He just follows his dreams, live by example and hope that it leads him to the finish line where the champagne’s being popped.”
Unfortunately for Frye, not everyone has the same goal in mind. “I like to see him not get f–ked out of his position,” T.I. said, referring to DollaHyde, a hip-hop fashion label Frye and Andrew “Dre” Collins (Phifer) own together.
“House of Lies” airs every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/PT and Tip urges everyone to tune in for some jaw-dropping plot twists. “This sh– is gonna take some turns that nobody is expecting,” he promised.
