Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran Are ‘The Most Humble People,’ Austin Mahone Says

At just 17 years old, Austin Mahone has accomplished quite a lot. He became a YouTube sensation, just released his new single, “What About Love,” and is now an opening act for Taylor Swift on her Red Tour.

The Red Tour, which Mahone will be on through August, marks the singer’s first major tour, and so far, so good, he told MTV News.

“It’s been amazing getting to go from city to city and perform for thousands of people,” Mahone said during “Live From MTV.” “It’s an amazing feeling, and the energy is crazy.”

Traveling from city to city makes it a little easier when you’re with Swift, who was equally excited to have Mahone on board.

“She was like, ‘I’m so glad to have you on tour. Thanks for being here,’ Mahone said Swift told him before his first show. “I was like, ‘No, thank you, this is a huge honor.’ “

Swift and Mahone had met before. Earlier this year, the up-and-coming pop star told MTV News of coincidentally meeting Swift in a Nashville café before his career took off and snapping a photo for proof.

So did Taylor remember Austin? “I showed her the picture. I was like, ‘Do you remember this?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah.’ I’m like, ‘No you don’t.’ “

Either way, Swift knows his name now, and she could even possibly collaborate on a song with Mahone — when he gets around to asking her. For now, he’s busy learning a lot, not only from Swift, but from tourmate Ed Sheeran.

“It’s crazy because Taylor and Ed are so successful, but they are also the most humble people you will ever meet,” Mahone said. “I can definitely learn a lot from that because they are on top and still so nice.”
