It’s helps when your friends are into your work. It especially helps when one of your pals is Taylor Swift and she tells everyone to go out and buy the debut single from your new side project the day it drops.
Just ask Fun.’s Jack Antonoff, who unwrapped the debut song from his Bleachers side band, the noisy pop gem “I Wanna Get Better,” on Tuesday (February 18).
“Been hearing songs from this project all year and am so excited the first single is out!!!!!,” Swift wrote.
The song, which has the same triumphant uplift of Fun.’s greatest hits, features the chorus, “I didn’t know I was lonely till I saw your face/I wanna get better, better, better, better.”
It also features a provocative cover image supplied by famed photographer Autumn de Wilde.
With distorted sung/spoken verses and a jagged, new wavey guitar solo, the song is just the latest step outside the Fun. box for Antonoff, who sang, wrote and performed all the music on the upcoming Bleachers major-label debut.
He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his collaboration with Swift on the song “Sweeter Than Fiction” and co-wrote Sara Bareilles’ Grammy-nominated smash “Brave.”
The Grammy winning guitarist wrote, co-produced and sings lead vocals on “I Wanna Get Better,” which he created alongside producer John Hill (M.I.A.). The band’s full-length album is due out this spring and they will make their network television debut on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” on March 26. The band’s first live show will take place at a March 12 showcase during the South By Southwest Music Festival. The next night they’ll take the stage along with Childish Gambino and Vic Mensa for the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards .
Of course Antonoff’s girlfriend, “Girls” creator and star Lena Dunham, is also totally in love with the song, and not just because she’s way into the singer.
As is singer Christina Perri, who urged her followers to “run,” not walk to iTunes to snatch it up.
