Taylor Swift’s Finally ‘Living In A Big Ol’ City’ In ‘Welcome To New York’

When Taylor Swift said she was “Out Of The Woods” last week, she meant it pretty literally. Her new song off of 1989, “Welcome To New York,” is about one thing and one thing only: the city she now calls her home.

“Walking through a crowd, the Village is aglow,” the 24-year-old singer opens the track, which was released on Monday (October 20). “Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats/ Everybody here wanted something more/ Searching for a sound we hadn’t heard before.”

While that’s certainly the narrative of a “new” New Yorker, Taylor has admitted that she sees the city with only the widest of “wide-eyed optimism.”

In fact, she’s “dreamt” about and “obsessed” over moving to New York for years. I mean, just look at the lyrics to her Speak Now single, “Mean”: “Someday I’ll be living in a big ol’ city/ And all you’re ever gonna be is mean.”

Sure, she forgot to mention them Scottish Folds, but she laid out the basic framework a long time ago.

“Welcome To New York” was written by Swift and Ryan Tedder, who also produced the song. It will serve as the opening track on Taylor’s upcoming fifth studio album, 1989, which will be released on October 27.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
