Everyone’s favorite Bad Gal turns 26 today, and MTV News wants to help her celebrate … but what do you get for the girl who has everything? How about her very own Throwback Thursday?
Yes, in honor of Rihanna’s second quarter-century, we’re opening up the vaults and bringing you our first-ever interview with her … from way back in 2005, when she was just starting to break thanks to the song that would become the first of her many hits: “Pon de Replay.”
In just eight short years, she’s become one of the most iconic performers on the planet. But back in 2005, she was still trying to make a name for herself in the pop game. And while most were curious to see where she’d go, Rihanna always knew that she was destined for greatness … and determined to work her tail off to get there.
“I can’t tell you where I see myself in five years, but I can tell you I will work my best to be the most successful artist I can be,” she told our cameras. “[I want to be remembered] as Rihanna, the artist from the Caribbean that came here and made it internationally … remembered as me, because I’m true to my music.”
She certainly is. So on her 26th birthday, let’s celebrate all of Rihanna’s accomplishments … and wonder what else she’s got in store for us as her career continues onward and upward.
