Toy Fair is in full swing in New York, and one of the hottest properties is the Michael Bay produced reboot, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Only one problem: you’re not allowed to take pictures of anything.
That aside, we were able to snag a decent amount of information on the upcoming movie based on visits to closed-doors sections in LEGO and Playmates’ booths:
LEGO My Turtles
There are three LEGO sets that will be released: the first is the Turtles’ truck, for $39.99; the second was a battle set for $69.99, featuring a female villain with a stripe of red hair, and Megan Fox‘s April O’Neil; and a third, a giant underground lair retailing for $99.99 and containing Splinter, Shredder, and more. None of the sets had box art or specific names as of yet.
The Secret Of The Ooze
The truck set had LEGO ooze, though, that can drop out of the back. So in case you were wondering whether the classic piece of the Ninja Turtles’ origin would be left out of the movie, worry no more. “Of course there’s ooze! You’ve gotta have ooze,” LEGO’s rep told us.
TMNT
We can also confirm the name of the movie is “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” though it was changed from the simpler “Ninja Turtles” so late in the process that Playmates had already sent all of their product to the printer. LEGO had the full title treatment, with “Teenage Mutant” much smaller over the more prominent “Ninja Turtles.”
Fox, Now More Like A Fox
Playmates has a focused, but extremely comprehensive line of toys for the movie. The look of the turtles was more reptilian, while Splinter (the rat who trains the turtles) and The Shredder (William Fichtner) hew more towards their classic looks. From both the LEGOs and the Playmates toys, it seems like the normally raven-haired Megan Fox will have red or auburn tresses as April O’Neil. She’ll look more like a fox then! Because foxes have reddish hair.
Foot Soldiers Are In The Clear
Playmates will release a line of Basic Movie Figures on July 6 for $8.99, featuring Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Donatello, a Foot Soldier, The Shredder, April O’Neil, and Splinter. This will be followed by a Raphael in trench coat figure later on. Of note, the Foot Soldier came with a removable clear mask. We’re not sure why, though it apparently was directly from the movie.
That Figures
Playmates’ Deluxe Movie line retails for $12.99, and you can squeeze the character’s legs for Ninja Action. Then there’s 11″ tall Turtles for $19.99, which are made up of the main four turtles and are huge. Beyond that, there’s Ninja Combat Gear, which features a movie reproduction of each Turtle’s weapon and appropriate colored mask.
Van Down By The Sewer
And finally, a Turtle Assault Van directly from the movie, sized to fitf the basic action figures. It also features an escape/assault luge that flies out the back of the van, and is big enough to hold one Turtle. It was emphasized that this is featured in the movie as well.
As these sets will be hitting in July, expect photos to start hitting online soon. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” will hit theaters on August 8.
