Even after a supporting role in the upcoming “Jai Courtney isn’t quite ready to leave behind bleak, futuristic worlds.
According to Variety, the “Good Day to Die Hard” star is in talks to join the upcoming “Terminator” reboot — set for release next summer — as Kyle Reese, the father of humanity’s only hope against robot overlords, John Connor.
Reportedly called “Terminator: Genesis,” the reboot will kick off a new, standalone trilogy. It will also welcome back the man behind the series’ most iconic moments, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Jason Clarke from “Zero Dark Thirty” and Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones” have already signed up for roles.
“Terminator: Genesis” will continue the story of man’s struggle to survive after an all-powerful, self-aware computer system, Skynet, takes control of the world, and the reboot brings some of the series’ most important characters back into the fold.
Jason Clarke takes on the role of John Connor after Christian Bale most recently played him in “Terminator: Salvation.” Edward Furlong and Nick Stahl played previous iterations of the future savior. The movie’s other Clarke, Emilia, takes on the iconic role of Sarah Connor, John’s mother, originated by all-time badass Linda Hamilton.
Courtney can be seen next in “Divergent” when that movie opens in theaters next month.
“Thor: The Dark World” and “Game of Thrones” director Alan Taylor will helm the first installment of the trilogy. It’s unclear at this point how the story of “Genesis” will relate to the previous four installments of the series, which was originally started by James Cameron back in 1984.
“Terminator: Genesis” is scheduled to open in theaters on July 1, 2015.
