As fans gear up to watch their favorite wall-crawler face off against some of the most imposing supervillains he’s ever faced (Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Paul Giamatti’s Rhino), Marvel has given the first look at the other bad guy in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” the Green Goblin.
Right away, in the first up-close-and-personal shot of the new and reimagined Harry Osborn gone bad — which debuted at Entertainment Weekly — it’s apparent that this ain’t that same Gobby brought to life in the previous trilogy by James Franco.
Dane DeHaan’s version of the teen driven to madness is nightmarish, with green skin pickled with decay, rotting teeth, a pointed nose, wicked eyes and hair that looks as if it was grafted in tufts from a baboon.
And can someone please get the guy some ChapStick?
In addition to his putrid transformation, DeHaan’s Goblin appears to be more mechanical, with a robotic-like apparatus cradling his neck and the occipital and temporal portion of his cranium and green armor inspired by a cyborg.
Although the Goblin’s storyline is being held tightly under wraps, Spidey fans know that Harry Osborn is deeply entangled in the web of lies and intrigue surrounding Oscorp, the ominous company responsible for the genetically engineered baddies intent on destroying the webslinger and anyone that gets in their way.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” swings into theaters on May 2.
