“The Voice” is back! Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will reunite on the season five premiere of the Emmy-winning reality singing competition Monday (September 23) night, alongside host Carson Daly.
Besides the irreverent chemistry between the original four coaches, these are the things we are excited to see.
Guest Mentors
Every season coaches work with celebrity guest mentors to guide their team members onto the right musical path. While the star-studded show has already enlisted the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Pharrell Williams in the past, season five has upped the ante with Miguel (Team Cee Lo), Ed Sheeran (Team Christina), One Republic’s Ryan Tedder (Team Adam) and the legendary Cher (Team Blake) set to dish out priceless advice. Guest mentors also tend to become performers on the show, so it’s a double whammy this season.
Blake’s Fingers And Zingers
Undoubtedly the most popular coach on “The Voice,” Blake Shelton has won hearts with his trademark sales pitch to contestants, which includes a simple finger point to himself and his infamous one-liners like “You know what the right thing to do is” and “I brove you,” to his partner in crime Adam Levine. But let’s not get it twisted: Shelton is a competitor and the country superstar is totally down to take digs at his fellow coaches. In trying to win a contestant over from Xtina, Shelton once said, “There are some people who quit singing just after they met her.”
Cee Lo’s New Pet
If Levine brings the cool, Aguilera brings the fire and Shelton brings the humor, then Cee Lo Green brings the pets. Oh, and the eccentricity. From Purrfect the Cat to the pink Cockatoo named Lady, the Goodie Mob vet has been accompanied by an interesting array of sidekicks in seasons past. As he makes his big season-five return, we can only wonder which creature from the animal kingdom will be by his side this time. For what it’s worth, we vote for a monkey.
Fantastic Four
Of course we’re looking forward to the reunion of the original coaches! The bromance between Adam and Blake is always a hoot; Adam and Christina’s catty banter certainly gets our ears perked; Cee Lo’s borderline creepy come-ons to the hot female contestants are a chuckle; and the duets — oh, the duets. The camaraderie between these stars is what has made this show the most successful singing competition at the moment, and season five seems to emphasize the winning formula.
The Winner
After all, the show is called “The Voice.” While Team Blake’s country prodigy Danielle Bradbery took the crown in season four, Team Usher’s Michelle Chamuel came out as the most unique find. Former winner Cassadee Pope is still reeling from her success on the show, which begs the question: Which hopeful will emerge a star this time around?
“The Voice” will kick off with its first round of blind auditions Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
