Another day, another time “The Fault In Our Stars” hit us squarely in the feels. In a brand new exclusive clip unveiled during the pre-show for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, “The Fault In Our Stars” has done it again.
We’ve been eating up every little bit of “Fault” we can get before its June 6 premiere just totally destroys us, and this new clip is a biggie. Right after Gus (Ansel Elgort) and Hazel (Shailene Woodley) meet for the first time at a support group for teens who have cancer or are in remission, Hazel is shocked to see Gus pull out a cigarette. With his explanation, she learns his (somewhat contrarian) life philosophy. And so do we.
Hazel is horrified when Gus pulls out a cigarette and pops it in his mouth right outside the church (yes, the Literal Heart of Jesus), but he quickly explains that he’s outsmarting the universe by not lighting the thing. It’s a metaphor, see?
And now you can explain Gus’ tricky metaphor, step by step, with GIFs. Check out the new clip above, then prepare to spend the next several days telling people that it’s a metaphor, Hazel Grace. Swoon. Sniff.
Things Start Out OK…
…Then Quickly Go Downhill.
See Ya Never, Gus.
A Counterpoint From Gus.
Bwuh?
Let Me Explain.
Oooooh.
