The “Guardians of the Galaxy” marketing machine is rolling ahead at full blast, introducing the world to Marvel’s newest team of heroes. After debuting individual featurettes for the five team members, Marvel Studios has revealed a poster for their first foray into sci-fi.
The poster strikes balance between letting audiences know that these character share a common origin with the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor and showing that Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot are unlike anything we’ve seen from Marvel Studios.
Now, let’s take a moment to talk about how absurdly perfect that tagline is.
“You’re welcome.” If you’re looking for any proof that director James Gunn and the rest of the people at Marvel understand these characters and their appeal, look no further. The whole point of the team is to stop universal catastrophes before they become uncontrollable. This means putting their butts on the line for people who will likely never know they’ve been saved. The tagline puts a smartass spin on a thankless job and quickly captures the spirit of the team.
Marvel is excited about these characters, and they have a very grasp on how to share that excitement.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theaters on August 1.
