This Nail Polish Can Detect Roofies In Your Drink

We know 2014 isn’t over yet, but we’re already going to call this the best invention of the year. Four students from North Carolina State University are “developing a nail polish that changes color when it comes in contact with date rape drugs such as Rohypnol, Xanax, and GHB” called Undercover Colors, according to their Facebook page. This means that by simply stirring a drink with your finger, you’ll be able to see if it’s been tampered with.

This is great news considering nearly 1 in 5 (or 22 million) women have been raped in their lifetime, and students are particularly vulnerable with 1 in 5 women being sexually assaulted while in college, according to a 2014 study from The White House Council on Women and Girls. To be able to take the power back into our own hands is huge, and this is one tiny step we can take to prevent further sexual assaults.

The founders of Undercover Colors said, “Our goal is to invent technologies that empower women to protect themselves from this heinous and quietly pervasive crime,” but right now this product is just in the prototype staging. To see it actually come to fruition, donate here!
