Spoiler alert: This Dracula story is not the Bram Stoker Victorian version. It is an attempt at retelling of Dracula’s origins, turning them into a fantastic, action-packed plot set in a medieval backdrop.
“Dracula Untold” will star Luke Evans as Vlad Tepes, a man who becomes a vampire in an effort to save his family from the greedy sultan Mehmed, played by Dominic Cooper.
But who’s the chilling monster that helps Tepes transform into a blood-sucking superhero? None other than Charles Dance, or Tywin Lannister for those still pining over the end of this season of “Games of Thrones.”
But there are no coffins in the trailer, and in the trailer, Tepes encounters the ancient vampire Tywin Lannister in a cave that looks vaguely like it belongs in Middle Earth.
Apparently, the team behind Dracula isn’t at all afraid to take from other successful productions—the trailer is soundtracked by Lorde‘s cover of Tears for Fears‘ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” that was recorded for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” MTV premiered Lorde’s cover of the track back in November, and while it certainly matches the film’s ominous plot, it’s still an oddly recycled choice.
“Dracula Untold” will be released on October 17, because duh, two weeks before Halloween is definitely vampire season.
