‘Veronica Mars’ Wants Its MTV — And It Got It

Everyone remembers the “I want my MTV” slogan of yesteryear, “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas included.

In the new “Veronica Mars” movie, which hit select theaters Friday (March 14) and is available on demand, the signature movie awards show of a certain media organization played an integral role in the plot. Veronica (Kristen Bell) returns to home sweet Neptune to help clear former flame Logan (Jason Dohring) of a murder rap when his pop star girlfriend is found dead. A certain piece of awards show swag serves as an important prop in the mystery.

Not only did “Veronica Mars” win MTV’s Movie Brawl, but it turns out that they’ve already been to the MTV Movie Awards. Who knew!

At the movie’s SXSW premiere, MTV News got the scoop from Thomas on how MTV ended up in the seedy beach town of Neptune, California.

“There’s a moment in the movie where we needed actors to have received gift bags and for the plot of the movie they needed to be gift bags that were cool enough to include a Samsung tablet and that felt like a very hip reference,” Thomas said.

“Veronica Mars” is in select theaters now.

Don’t miss the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards, Sunday, March 16 at 8/7c on MTV & mtvU, featuring performances from Iggy Azalea, The 1975 and Childish Gambino, live from the SXSW Festival!
