Watch J.Cole Crash Aaron Reid’s ‘Super Sweet 16′ Before Signing With Jay Z

June 15 marks five years since J. Cole released his prolific mixtape The Warm Up and to celebrate this milestone, the Roc Nation rapper sat down with Sway for a special edition of RapFix.

On Sunday, MTV Jams will air “RapFix Presents: J. Cole’s The Warm Up – 5 Years Later” at 7:30 p.m. ET.

During the intimate interview, Cole will share some previously unreleased footage and world premiere his “Lights Please” video.

In a scene that didn’t make the show’s final cut there was one especially comical moment. Before Hov finally signed him to the Roc, Cole did everything in his power to get his future boss’ attention. One of those efforts was captured on MTV, during an episode of “My Super Sweet 16.”

As Cole explains in the video above, one of his classmates at St. John’s University was an intern at Def Jam, and invited him to crash a birthday party for L.A. Reid’s son. The North Carolina rapper was hesitant at first, but agreed when he heard that heavy weights like Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, Jermaine Durpi and Jay Z would be in the building.

Looking back on the footage, Cole admits that he’s embarrassed, but at the time he was only focused on one thing. “I was tryna be as extra as possible thinking they might use it,” he explained, blushing. “Not knowing that one day, I would be sitting in this chair with Sway.”

“RapFix Presents: J. Cole’s The Warm Up – 5 Years Later” airs on MTV Jams at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 15. The special will re-air at 11:30 p.m. ET.
