With a cool and respectable $32.5 million gained in its opening this weekend, FOX has already jumped headfirst into the maze, committing to a second “The Maze Runner” film, slated for 2015. Three cheers for Dylan O’Brien, bonafide movie star!
Already be-titled and be-dated, “Maze Runner: Scorch Trials” — based on the second in James Dashner’s novel series about this dystopian, post-apocalyptic future wherein kids are running mazes — has been given the release date of September 18, 2015. Mark your calendars, Greenies! The sci-fi thrills are going to continue.

Following the events of the first book, “Scorch Trials” continues to follow Thomas (O’Brien), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), and Theresa (Kaya Scodelario) following their escape from the maze, delving deeper into its origins and the part that Thomas had in all of this. As of now there is no word whether or not Wes Ball, the film’s director, or screenwriter Noah Oppenheim will reprise their duties.
But hey! The bottom line is more “Maze Runner” and what’s not to like about that, right?
