Months of preparation, hard work and hours upon hours of rehearsal culminate Wednesday night (August 14) as Selena Gomez hits the stage for the very first time on her Stars Dance World Tour.
Gomez kicks off the global trek in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she will perform songs from her chart-topping album in front of thousands of Selenators, a thought that’s giving Gomez some pre-performance jitters.
“I definitely have anxiety. I’m very nervous, but in the best possible way,” Gomez admitted during her last dress rehearsal at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California. “I love being nervous. The adrenaline takes over and it just makes me want to give my all, so I’m really nervous.”
It’s not just the performing that has Gomez nervous: She’s putting a lot of pressure on herself this time around to make Stars Dance Tour bigger and better than anything she’s done in the past.
“This is a lot for me. I’ve got a lot to prove,” Gomez said. “I’ve got a lot to live up to, so I’m just going to try to focus on making it the best it can be. I’ll just wish for the best from that point on. Hopefully, people will enjoy it.”
Gomez told MTV News she wants her fans to enjoy the show so much that they leave “exhausted” after dancing the night away.
“I want people to feel it when they hear the beat on the song, when they see a dance move, that it encourages them to keep going,” Gomez said. “I want them to non-stop dance, because that’s what I grew up watching in the nosebleeds, going to every Britney show, just still wanting to this day to learn her dance moves because they are so epic, so that’s what I’m trying to do: make it fun, original and let them have a great time.”
