The Stafford Brothers have officially taken on the United States. Shortly after moving to L.A. from Australia, they became the first EDM act to sign to Cash Money, and have since garnered recognition for their first single with Lil Wayne and Christina Milian called “Hello.” The Bros tell MTV News they are in no hurry to get back to Australia, but can’t wait for fans to hear the impact of Cash Money and American culture on their new releases.
“Back home it’s not so much you hear dance music in most clubs, you wouldn’t really listen to hip hop,” they said. “We wanted to work with rappers. That’s one of the reasons we came to America so Cash Money has been perfect for that.” Besides the obvious hip-hop influence from the label and from the popularity of the genre in the US, the brothers told MTV News a collaboration with Cash Money leader Birdman is the next step for them. “If you get the boss of the label on your record I’d say that’s a positive step,” they said. For “Hello,” they didn’t actually get into the studio with Wayne, but they did make a video together and even made the cut for the hip hop legend’s birthday party. According to them, “he’s a really cool guy.” They also would love to work with Drake, 2 Chainz, or in fact, a whole bunch of rappers. “You know like the Rich Gang song? Just do that with us,” they joked. Lately, the group has teamed up with production duo The Runners, known for their work with people like Rihanna and Rick Ross to work on some new material, and have already created a few trap records.
The brothers currently have a show on iHeart Radio that you can catch on Saturday nights where they preview a different electronic artist every week featuring people like Nicky Romero, Krewella and Tommy Trash in the past.
