‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Video Reveals Ellen Page’s Time-Travel Tricks

In there are several factors in play, from an older generation of “X-Men” actors to the newer era first introduced in “X-Men: First Class.” How do these two timelines collide? The answer has been revealed, thanks to some new behind-the-scenes featurettes released this week.

As with the “Days of Future Past” comic book storyline the movie gets its name from, the upcoming “X-Men” movie will see intangible mutant Kitty Pryde play a central role in the story’s time-travel component. However, some important modifications have been made between the comic and the forthcoming film.

“Kitty Pryde is a young mutant who has the ability to send a person’s consciousness back in time to their younger self,” says Ellen Page in a new video, revealing a secondary power for the character best-known for her ability to walk through walls.

Page adds that Charles Xavier and Magneto develop a plan use Kitty to send mutants back in time, as a means of stopping the Sentinels from killing all of the X-Men. “They just hope they can stop all the madness before it has the opportunity to even begin.”

There’s another wrinkle, however. Until now, Pryde has only been able to send mutants back in time by two or three weeks at the most — and the longer she subjects any one mutant to the time-travel treatment, the weaker both she and the subject become.

And that’s where Wolverine comes in.

“Going back a year would normally kill anybody else,” says Hugh Jackman, “but Wolverine can heal himself — so he can be sent back 50 years.”

But even if Wolverine can heal quickly, the same can’t be said for Pryde. It sounds like Wolverine’s mission back to the past will need to be accomplished on a tight time-table, or else it could have devastating consequences for the future’s most important mutant.

“We just hope Wolverine can complete the mission before she has to let go,” says Page.

In addition to revealing the secrets behind Pryde’s time-travel abilities, there are other new “Days of Future Past” behind-the-scenes videos that show off familiar sets like Xavier’s mansion:

The corridor that leads to Cerebro, the mutant-finding super-computer system:

And even a new set, the monastery, where the X-Men of the future hide out from the mutant-hunting Sentinels:

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” hits theaters on May 23.
