11 ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Easter Eggs You May Have Missed

Like all of Marvel Studios’ movies, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is filled with Easter eggs and details that only fans of the comics will understand the fully.

And with the new movie following the adventures of Steve Rogers hitting theaters today (April 4), I’ve combed through the sequel to find as many of the hidden references as I could.

BIG OL’ SPOILER ALERT!

Stephen Strange
You heard correctly. That was the name of the Sorcerer Supreme that Jasper Sitwell mentioned to Cap on the rooftop. Doctor Strange, who is set for his own movie sometime in the near future, certainly does exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Ezekiel 25:17
The inscription on Nick Fury’s tombstone cites a bible passage that should be familiar to any Quentin Tarantino fan.

Avengers Tower
During the targeting sequence for Project Insight, one of the cross-hairs points to the redesigned Stark Tower in the heart of Manhattan, still sporting the “A” from the end of “The Avengers.”

Senator Stern
Tony Stark’s worst Congressional enemy makes a cameo appearance, but this time he’s not just a jerk. He’s an evil jerk. Hail, Hyrda!

Baron Von Strucker
He doesn’t get mentioned by name, but that’s the future “Avengers: Age of Ultron” villain you saw in the first post-movie teaser.

The Twins
These “survivors” are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively. Strucker’s assistant hints that the twins were the only two to survive experiments they had conduct with the help of Loki’s staff.

Ed Brubaker
The writer responsible for bringing Bucky Barnes back to life as the Winter Soldier makes a cameo as one of the scientists attending to the brainwashed assassin.

Crossbones
Rumlow, the dirtbag S.H.I.E.L.D. who fights Falcon at the end, managed to survive the big helicarrier crash of 2014, but not without some serious facial scarring that could bring him closer to his masked alter ego from the comics.

Sharon…
This one isn’t so much an Easter egg for comic fans, but the uninitiated might not know that Agent 13’s last name is Carter… as in Peggy…. Yeah, this could get weird.

Danny Pudi and DC Pierson
The friendly Apple Genius and the Triskelion guard that Cap holds up have some connections to the Russo brothers. The directors helmed several episodes of “Community,” which stars Pudi as Abed. Pierson is a part of the Derick Comedy group with another “Community” actor, Donald Glover.

Different Lists
Steve’s list of pop culture moments to catch up on varied from country to country.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is in theaters now.
