This Crazy Hong Kong Skyscraper Selfie May Make You Vom

by 18 mins ago

OK, this selfie is downright bananas and I don’t mean that simply because of the two casual cool kids nomming on ‘naners at the beginning of the video. It’s because the whole thing takes place atop a Hong Kong skyscraper more than a thousand feet off the ground as if such a selfie experience were totally casual, NBD.

Except it’s so terrifying my stomach hurts just writing this.

According to YouTube uploader Frank Wu, photographer Daniel Lau utilized a “selfie stick” in order to procure the “dizzying footage of a rooftopping adventure 346m (1,135 feet) above the streets of Hong Kong.”

“Lau, fellow photographer Andrew Tso and A.S. are seen in the video snacking while perched dangerously on the spire of The Centre skyscraper, Hong Kong’s fifth-tallest skyscraper,” the video’s description reads.

If you felt particularly queasy while Lau’s selfie stick swirled about, it’s likely thanks to the wide-angle lens he used, ensuring many a lunch lost all across the Internet.

Personally, if we want our next selfie to look that extreme, we’ll use the background effects on Photobooth. But to each their own!

Child’s ‘Illegal’ Lemonade Stand Attacked By Cranky Old Man

by 1 min ago

Finally, after years of unregulated torment placed on the heads of unwitting suburban homeowners, a cranky dude from Florida has taken a stand against, well, lemonade stands once and for all.

61-year-old brave patriot for the regulation of children’s summertime endeavors Doug Wilkey decided that the illegal business practices of his neighbor, 12-year-old T.J. Guerrero, aspiring iPod owner, has not only gone on long enough, but has actually caused a depreciation in his home’s value. There goes the neighborhood!

Wilkey contacted law enforcement and City Hall officials several times over the middle schooler’s year-round “illegal business,” explaining that the excessive amount of traffic, noise and trash caused by the small business owner have thrown this idyllic community into a cesspool of calamity and disorderly conduct.

“Please help me regain my quiet home and neighborhood,” Wilkey wrote.

“The city could possibly face repercussion in the event someone became ill from spoiled/contaminated food or drink sales,” Wilkey, champion for the stepped-on little guys of the world, stated in one of his many emails.

After his calls went largely (and unfairly!) unheeded by local authorities, Wilkey decided to step up the crusade, alerting the Tampa Bay Times that the flagrant abuse of the law was occurring “AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Records from the Dunedin, Florida city commissioners’ office revealed that Wilkey has been vigilant in his attempts to return normalcy to his neighborhood, having contacted them about the matter in May 2013, October 2013, and again in March and June of 2014.

Thankfully, Wilkey’s rabble-rousing has resulted in some progress: ...

Lena Dunham: Taylor Swift Is My ‘Feminist Role Model’

by 6 mins ago

Ch-ch-ch-changes: the cornerstone of any internal growth spurt — sort of like the one Taylor Swift has undergone in the past two years. She’s shaking off any criticism and figuring out what feminism means to her. A topic of which her BFF Lena Dunham is quite fond. Natch.

The “Girls” showrunner/actor/doer-of-all-the-things tweeted in support of Swift and her evolution and growth on the matter — a change from her earlier days of declaring herself not a feminist.

The article in question was Friday’s profile of Swift in U.K. paper The Guardian, wherein the singer clarifies her opinion on the women’s equality movement and whether or not she considers herself a feminist.

“As a teenager, I didn’t understand that saying you’re a feminist is just saying that you hope women and men will have equal rights and equal opportunities,” said Swift.

“For so long it’s been made to seem like something where you’d picket against the opposite sex, whereas it’s not about that at all,” Swift said, crediting a lot of her own acceptance and understanding of the term to Dunham herself. “Becoming friends with Lena – without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for – has made me realize that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so.”

Grimes Won’t Do The Ice Bucket Challenge Because Of Animal Testing

by 1 min ago

See? Not everybody’s participating in the ALS ice bucket challenge — and singer Grimes has particularly good reason for it.

After being nominated by DJ Richie Hawtin, Skrillex, and Dubfire to dump a bucket o’ the cold stuff atop her head, Grimes took to Tumblr to voice her reservations about ALS as an organization, particularly in regards to their animal testing.

“Haha okay, richie is probably the nicest and coolest person I’ve ever met so i can’t really refuse him,” she wrote. “[H]owever, I would like to say that I don’t feel great about wasting water in this california drought, but i will donate money.”

But it didn’t stop there. Grimes went on to call out ALS in regards to their animal testing — something actress Pamela Anderson also recently did on her Facebook page. But in a statement from ALS received by The Daily Banter, the organization insisted that their practices involving animals are safe and ethical.

“Significant advances have been made in ALS and other neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease using model systems such as rodents, flies and worms to better understand disease mechanisms and to develop therapies. … The ALS Association supports laboratories and scientists that strictly adhere to the guidelines provided by the National Institutes of Health.”

Instead of donating to ALS, Grimes opted to give to another organization, The Malala Fund. “I will not donate money to this foundation because of their record of testing ...

Chloe Moretz’s Two Most Terrifying Auditions? Martin Scorsese And Michael Bay

by 23 mins ago

When it comes to starting out in your career, being unable to cry in front of Michael Bay would very likely not get you a callback, let alone the job. But “If I Stay” star Chloe Moretz managed to overcome all that in order to land her first movie role in “The Amityville Horror.”

“I had to like cry over and over again in auditions… Because when you’re a little kid that’s what it means to be an actor, is being able to cry,” Moretz told MTV News. “It was my last audition. Michael Bay was in front of me with all the big guys and I was ready to cry for the 15,000th time, and I keep looking up and looking out and I can’t do it.”

But that’s not all: the exuberant child star-turned-adult actorlady managed, with her pitch-perfect sweetness, to also make lying to directorial King of the Movies, Martin Scorsese, an aww-shucks-y passable offense.

“I had to lie to him and tell him I was British,” Moretz explained. “I was like, ahh, 13 years old and was all ‘OK I’ll try to do this.’ ”

Can you even believe it? That’s like, worse than lying on a math test or copying your best friend’s biology homework. OH JEEZ! And apparently the director bought it — how else could she have landed the role in “Hugo,” eh? — though who knows how long this whole farce has been kept up. Maybe the director STILL ...

Love ‘Em Or Tatum, Channing And Jenna Do The Ice Bucket Challenge

by 19 mins ago

Is there anything one can say that hasn’t already been said about the onslaught of celebrity Ice Bucket Challenge videos to raise awareness for ALS? Not really, right?

We’ve seen a whole manner of famousfolk take the icy plunge (and hopefully donate a couple dollar-os in the interim)… But we haven’t seen the Tatums do it yet! And when they do, it’s adorable.

Channing and his lady Jenna Dewan-Tatum have now also had a bunch of cold water dumped on their heads in the name of good-deeding, calling out several friends and fellow famous folk, including Emmanuelle Chriqui, Kate Mara, Janet Jackson (wait: are Jenna and Janet buds? Serious question), Jonah Hill (because duh), Meryl Streep, and Daniel Day-Lewis (please tell me DDL, Meryl, and Channing hang out on the regs, that would be fabulous if also nonsensical) to also get in on the video challenge.

The deluge that followed the named one looked impressively forceful… and also cold.

This ‘Breaking Bad’ Reunion Video Is A Work Of Art

by 26 mins ago

Oh my jeez, stop it. Somebody call the Museum of the Moving Image because this? This right here? This is everything good and should be immortalized. This is “Breaking Bad” meets “Veep” meets reality television parody-levels of good. In fact, we’d call it small screen art.

Because that’s exactly what it is, packaged as an Emmy Award promo featuring Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Julia Louis-Dreyfus …and a very special, very adorable surprise guest at the end (bitch).

This video could go up in a museum, for giving us beauty such as this. The best things in life truly are free, folks. Or at least are free to us, the viewers on the Internet for whom this advertisement to watch the 2014 Emmy Awards was made.

Because I mean just look at these moments of flawless perfection:

It feels good just to look at it, doesn’t it?

30 ‘Doctor Who’ Episode That Will Make You A Whovian In No Time

by 49 mins ago

When it comes to “Doctor Who,” there’s, well, a LOT of area to cover. It’s a series that’s been on for 50 years now, making it a mind-boggling thing to attempt to get into. With all the hullabaloo and fanfare that ushers each new Doctor into the TARDIS, it can certainly be an intimidating sphere of entertainment.

But it doesn’t have to be!

Really. The world of “Doctor Who,” though vast and filled with superfans aplenty — knowledge of the universe and canonical things that make Who, well, Who — is, at its heart, a fun and sometimes campy series about an alien and a human, zipping through time and space tackling myriad alien problems throughout history, finding a bit of humanity even amongst the most un-human among us. It’s lovely and silly and funny and action-y and doesn’t have to be that serious if you don’t want it to be. After all, TV first and foremost, is about having fun.

So we’ve decided to create a list of some of the best episodes of the series — ones that will ease you into the madness if you’re curious for a toe-dip. They’re mostly New Who as opposed to the Classic Who of the 60s, 70s, and 80s but we’ve thrown a few bonus episodes of those in if you’re feeling particularly jazzed on Time Lords and ready to commit to becoming a full-fledged Whovian.

7 Reasons Keke Palmer Is The Perfect ‘Cinderella’

by 38 mins ago

When you’re Keke Palmer, impressive actress and doer-of-all-of-the-things, most days are good days to be you. But Monday was a particularly exciting one as it was announced that the actress and youngest talk show host, ever, would be tapped to play the titular “Cinderella” on Broadway. She makes her debut on September 9th (so soon)!

This will be the first time a black actress will play the role on the Great White Way and we, personally, couldn’t be more pleased with their selection. Though we imagine some of you out there may have some questions and/or misgivings because, well, this IS the Internet we’re talking about. But let’s just put those all to rest tout de suite.

Can the singer/dancer/actor/multi-hyphenate 20-year-old handle the role and gravity that comes with shouldering an entire theater production on one’s shoulders? Um, that comes with a resounding “duh!” Because Palmer is a veritable force. And not that you should really need any more convincing, but just in case, we’ve compiled a few of the reasons for you.

1. She Can Sing …And Dance!
Sure, she may be well known as an actress first but Palmer can seriously sing. And we’re not just talking about her time in “Joyful Noise,” though that works, too. Palmer put out her first album, the light and R&Breezy “So Uncool” in 2007, following it up with three mixtapes in 2011 and 2012.

Here’s one of her most popular tunes, “Love You, Hate You.” Surely with the ability to dance ...
