Listen To Dillon Francis’ Entire New Album Here

by 1 min ago

Looking to have a quiet night in, all huddled up in a blanket burrito sipping a cup of Earl Grey? Then do not listen to Dillon Francis’ new album, Money Sucks, Friends Rule. Seriously, this set of 12 bangers is pretty much the antithesis of getting lost in your duvet.

The LP won’t see its official release until October 27, but you can stream it right now, in full, at DillonFrancis.MTV.com.

The music producer’s debut full-length album is also as packed with features as it is beats, boasting cameos from Twista, DJ Snake, Martin Garrix, Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco (“Love In The Middle Of A Firefight”) and Major Lazer — and that’s literally only, like, half of them.

Burn your blankets now.

Legendary Fashion Designer Oscar De La Renta Has Died

by 28 mins ago

Oscar de la Renta died on Monday (October 20) at the age of 82.

His wife of 25 years, Annette de la Renta, confirmed the news to The New York Times. The world-renowned fashion designer also leaves behind four step-children from his two marriages.

ABC News reports that he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. This has not been confirmed as the cause of death at press time.

Born in the Dominican Republic in 1932, de la Renta has designed for Lanvin and Balmain throughout his storied career, not to mention his own namesake fashion house.

His work was perhaps best worn by A-list actresses and First Ladies of the United States, from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Michelle Obama. Most recently, he designed the wedding gown worn by Amal Clooney at her September wedding to George Clooney.

Not long after the news broke, Vogue posted a loving tribute on Instagram, writing: “The ‘King of Evening’ will be forever remembered.”

Taylor Swift’s Finally ‘Living In A Big Ol’ City’ In ‘Welcome To New York’

by 28 mins ago

When Taylor Swift said she was “Out Of The Woods” last week, she meant it pretty literally. Her new song off of 1989, “Welcome To New York,” is about one thing and one thing only: the city she now calls her home.

taylor swiftInstagram (Taylor Swift)

“Walking through a crowd, the Village is aglow,” the 24-year-old singer opens the track, which was released on Monday (October 20). “Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats/ Everybody here wanted something more/ Searching for a sound we hadn’t heard before.”

While that’s certainly the narrative of a “new” New Yorker, Taylor has admitted that she sees the city with only the widest of “wide-eyed optimism.”

In fact, she’s “dreamt” about and “obsessed” over moving to New York for years. I mean, just look at the lyrics to her Speak Now single, “Mean”: “Someday I’ll be living in a big ol’ city/ And all you’re ever gonna be is mean.”

Sure, she forgot to mention them Scottish Folds, but she laid out the basic framework a long time ago.

taylor swiftInstagram (@taylorswift)

“Welcome To New York” was written by Swift and Ryan Tedder, who also produced the song. It will serve as the opening track on Taylor’s upcoming fifth studio album, 1989, which will be released on October 27.

This Twerking Turtle Must Be Stopped

by 27 mins ago

This past weekend, a video of a turtle reportedly “twerking” to Jason Derulo’s “Wiggle” under a water faucet hit YouTube, and the devastating effects of his much-publicized indiscretion are already palpable.

According to the Completely Fictional Center For Turtle Health And Well-Being, twerking among turtles is up 31 percent in the 18-49 year old demographic since the video’s upload on Saturday (October 18).

Perhaps even more concerning, a shocking 57 percent rise in twerk-related activity has been documented in the under-18 set of impressionable, hard-shelled youths.

This increase comes at the cost of a variety of turtle activities, like turtle-homework, turtle-prayer group, turtle-recycling and turtle-remembering to call your mother. And turtle experts — a noted field of professionals I’m certainly not making up right now for the purposes of satire — fear that this phenomenon will only continue.

When reached for comment, one turtle expert had this to say:

Perhaps we’re already too late.

Artist To Watch: Bow Down To Charli XCX, Your London Queen

by 21 mins ago

To paraphrase a great book I once read: You may think you know Charli XCX, but you have no idea.

Wait, no — that was MTV’s “Diary.”

Whatever, the point still stands. Over the past 18 months, MTV’s latest Artist To Watch has broken into the mainstream thanks to features on Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Icona Pop’s “I Love It” (which she co-wrote), followed by her own solo single on the “Fault In Our Stars” soundtrack, “Boom Clap.”

All three songs landed in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, but if they’re all you know about Charli, then you’ve got some stuff to learn.

Who She Is

charli xcxBella Howard

Charli XCX was born Charlotte Emma Aitchison in the U.K. — Stevenage in Hertfordshire, England to be exact.

She’s 22 years old, and she’s technically only released one album so far, 2013′s True Romance. I say “technically” because her “real” first full length, 2008′s 14, was a promotional LP recorded with the support of her parents in order to book gigs, and it was never officially made available anywhere. (Though you can definitely find the gnostic collection if you look in the right places…)

The point is that Charli was already recording albums and playing shows when she was only 14 years old, and what have I even done ...

‘Entourage’ Totally Predicted Lady Gaga’s Jazz Reinvention In 2008: Watch

by 35 mins ago

A pop star seeks to reinvent her image by teaming up with Tony Bennett. No, I’m not talking about Lady Gaga, who released an entire album of duets with the legendary jazz singer titled Cheek To Cheek back in September. What I’m referring to is an actual subplot from an episode of HBO’s “Entourage,” which aired back in 2008. Seriously.

The immortal Blair Waldorf Leighton Meester plays Justine Chapin, a recurring character who dates Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) for a couple of episodes in Season 1. There’s definitely some early-’00s Britney Spears-meets-Jessica Simpson inspiration at play — she’s known in the industry for her vow to “save herself for marriage.”

Flash-forward to Season 5, and Justine and Vince cross paths once more. She’s “shooting a video for my new album,” she tells him, before adding the disclaimer: “Don’t make fun. I know my music isn’t really your thing, but this is way different. It’s very sophisticated. Grown-up. I’m doing Duets with Tony Bennett.”

Oh my God, what in the name of “Sophisticated Lady”? How is this a real thing that happened? Up is down. Left is right. Suddenly the Koons is ANYTHING. Psychics wrote this episode. What did Nostradamus see? Bye.

HOW. DID. THEY. KNOW.

Iggy Azalea Goes Totally ’80s For ‘Beg For It’ Cover Art

by 20 mins ago

Iggy Azalea took to Instagram on Friday (October 17) to reveal the cover art for her new single, “Beg For It,” featuring Danish singer , and oh my god it’s more ’80s than Lionel Richie interrupting a Jazzercise class to ask Molly Ringwald, “Where’s the beef?”

Iggy’s shoulder pads will make you “Beg For It.”

The Reclassified track — which the “Black Widow” rapper plans to debut with a performance on “Saturday Night Live” on October 25 — doesn’t sound particularly retro, at least not based on the snippet she previewed at a recent O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire concert.

But, who cares? The single cover is clearly Patrick Nagel-inspired, and that’s all that matters.

From the styling and the panther to all that purple, there’s definitely a heavy Patrick Nagel influence on the single cover art.

The artist, who died in ’84, was known for his color-blocked illustrations of highly sexualized, badass-looking female subjects.

Jay Z, Beyonce And Beyonce’s Bangs Go Gallery-Hopping

by 11 mins ago

Because not even the highest of high-profile photo shoots can compare with hitting up a museum and using the art as a backdrop for Instagram gold, Beyoncé and husband Jay Z took pictures at a bunch of galleries while on vacation in London.

Also, art is culturally enriching and stuff. But whatever, back to the photos.

Posted on the “Flawless” singer’s website on Thursday (October 16), the pics were taken at the annual Frieze Art Fair, the recently opened Marian Goodman Gallery and the David Zwirner. You know, just in case you wanna recreate everything she did the next time you’re in the U.K. (I know you do.) Step one, get super-short Bettie Page bangs. Step two…

This reflective work needed more Beyoncé. Good thinking.

Pink Gets Real In You+Me’s Emotional New Video

by 55 mins ago

This past Tuesday saw the release of rose ave., the debut from Pink’s folk-pop project with Dallas Green from City & Colour, You+Me. On Thursday (October 16), they returned with a new video for one of the album tracks, “Open Door.”

Related: Everything You Need To Know About You+Me

The clip was filmed live during a performance in Santa Monica, California. (Not that long ago, I’d guess, considering Pink’s wearing the same dress and hairstyle from her recent appearance on “Ellen.” #iseeyou) It’s simple, understated and arresting — the perfect complement to the song.

“Dear mother/ I know I have been away for far too long,” they softly harmonize as one. “I hope you understand it when you hear this song/ That you taught me how to be right in a world gone wrong.” Later, they follow that up with a nearly identical set of lyrics directed at their fathers.

Longtime fans of Alecia Moore might interpret the song as a bookend of sorts to the singer’s “Family Portrait.”

In that 2001 Missundaztood single, she narrates her parents’ crumbling marriage and the impact it had on her family as a kid. And now, 13 years later, she’s addressing those same relationships through the eyes of an adult.
