Leighton Meester Hates ‘Everyone But You’ In The New ‘Life Partners’ Trailer

by 52 mins ago

By the looks of the new trailer for “Life Partners,” this Leighton Meester vehicle might just be the accessibly esoteric, gay-straight, all-female, buddy-buddy comedy you’ve always wanted to see — even if you never knew that exactly, because how.

The “Gossip Girl” alum stars as Sasha, a lesbian with pretty DGAF tendencies who is best friends with Gillian Jacobs’ more straight-laced straight lady character, Paige. The two have made a pact that Paige won’t marry until Sasha legally can (how Jack Antonoff/Lena Dunham of them), but that was before Tim (played by Meester’s IRL husband, Adam Brody) proposed to Paige. A whacky, yet touching, romp presumably ensues.

“Life Partners” also features Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe as Jen, and it is slated to hit On Demand and iTunes on November 6, with a December 5 theatrical release to follow according to the film’s website. Susanna Fogel directs, and she and Joni Lefkowitz wrote the screenplay.

Tinashe’s New Album Aquarius: 3 Must-Hear Tracks

by 38 mins ago

The stereotypical Aquarius would probably see a lot of themselves in Tinashe’s debut studio album — out Tuesday (October 7) — even if they don’t want to talk about it right now, OK? The 17-track release stays cool and collected from start to finish, but a closer listen reveals a whole lot of chaos boiling just beneath its icy surface.

For every time 21-year-old Tinashe Kachingwe detachedly brags about how much she loves getting “2 On” or making a “Thug Cry” on Aquarius, she follows it up with some tender introspection. The last remnants of a crumbling relationship come crashing down with a whisper on “Pretend,” and “How Many Times” sees our lady getting unabashedly vulnerable behind closed doors — and sampling Janet Jackson’s Control-era classic, “Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun),” while she does it.

In placing her Water Bearer status front and center, Tinashe creates yet another reason to invite the inevitable comparison to Beyoncé — hallowed be her name. Lest we forget, the reigning queen of mainstream R&B has fully owned her inner Virgo ever since her Dangerously In Love days, debuting with not one but two songs (“Signs” and “Gift From Virgo”) dedicated to her perfectionist-leaning sun sign.

But Tinashe’s style traces its lineage through a different, less dazzling crop of R&B singers (think Aaliyah), and her appeal often lies in how far from “Flawless” she can fall: She seethes in lieu of confrontation, she doubts ...

Watch Pharrell, Lorde, One Direction & Literally Everyone Ever Cover ‘God Only Knows’

by 39 mins ago

What in the name of Lip$ha? The BBC took the meaning of the word “supergroup” to epic new heights with a TV spot that began airing on Tuesday (October 7) in which a variety of artists gather together to sing the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows.” The promo is related to an upcoming block of BBC Music programming.

The cover will also be released as a single to raise funds for the BBC’s Children In Need charity. The BBC pulled a similar move in 1997, releasing a version of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day” featuring the voices of Elton John, Bono and Reed himself, among others, but I think that “God Only Knows” has that 17-year-old cover beat. I mean, not to get all Stefon from “SNL,” but this video has everyone.

Pharrell Williams? He’s in it. Lorde? She’s there, too. One Direction? You better believe it. Here’s only a handful of the 27 artists the BBC rounded up.

This video literally stars everyone. There’s Pharrell!

French Swifties Welcome Taylor Swift, Er, ‘Becky’ With Open Arms

by 1 min ago

Because it would be selfish to horde the world’s supply of Taylor Swift for itself, the United States has graciously agreed to lend the “Shake It Off” singer to France, at least temporarily while she promotes her album.

On Sunday (October 5), the 24-year-old singer-songwriter set off for what would surely be a magical trek to Europe. (Meredith and Olivia are probably fine. I’m sure BFFs Lena Dunham and Karlie Kloss are cat-sitting in their matching pioneer-woman nightgowns as we speak.) With a 7:00 a.m. flight out of New York, though, things did not get off to the most magical of starts.

“bright eyed and ready to take on the next adventure! …….nope.”

Yet Taylor persevered, possibly after an emergency 50cc of creamy Ladurée macarons or something. (Pretty sure that’s how French universal healthcare works.)

And on Monday (October 6), she hit up French radio station NRJ (pronounced “enn-air-djee” like the french word for “energy”) — after she took some selfies with a bunch of French Swifties waiting for her outside the building, that is.

Oh my god, it’s Taylor!

Did This Chicago Teen Run Away From Home To Join ISIS?

by 33 mins ago

A teenager suspected of leaving his home to join foreign terrorist group ISIS was arrested in Chicago over the weekend.

CNN reports that federal agents arrested 19-year-old Mohammed Hamzah Khan at O’Hare International Airport on Saturday (October 4). The young man had just crossed security when he was stopped.

Court documents reveal that he was carrying a notebook with detailed travel plans, a round-trip ticket to Istanbul, Turkey (by way of Vienna, Austria) and a map of the Turkey-Syria border at the time of his arrest.

Authorities executed a warranted search of Khan’s family home in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook, Illinois. They found what CNN describes as “documents expressing support for ISIS and jihadists,” as well as a three-page letter that he left for his family, urging them to join him in the Islamic State.

Related: What Is ISIS?

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, is the name of an extremist organization that operates roughly inside the borders of Iraq and Syria. It is also the name of the unrecognized state the group hopes to establish. ISIS is also referred to as ISIL (the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) as well as just the Islamic State.

Khan has been charged with one count of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. On Monday (October 6), he appeared in court. If convicted, he will face a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison plus a $250k fine.

His story is, unfortunately, not ...

Justin Bieber Just Wants You To Leave Him Alone On Vacation, OK?

by 52 mins ago

Justin Bieber is vacationing in Italy right now, and he just wants some peace, quiet and Fettuccine Alfredo.

That seems to be the message behind the video he Instagrammed on Monday (October 6). “Italy was pretty awesome, could find me in your city next,” the “Confident” singer wrote in the caption.

He followed that message with a series of hashtags: “#imatourist #nowork #sightseeing #fettucciniAlfredo #imthatguywithafannypack #ifuseemeletmeenjoymyvisit #illbebackfortouripromise”

Huh? Let’s rewind back to that second to last hashtag: If you see me, let me enjoy my visit. Guess even Bieber needs a break from all that Bieber-mania every now and then.

That’s pretty understandable, seeing as how dangerous the paparazzi have acted toward him in the past. And to be fair, his more, um, dedicated fans might interfere with his relaxation M.O.

In closing, Justin’s bodyguard, Gil, should definitely call me sometime.

Kelly Rowland Says It’s ‘Godmazing’ Being Pregnant

by 4 mins ago

Sorry, motivational “hang in there” cat posters of the world, but Kelly Rowland’s new gloriously pregnant photo spread is the only motivation this world needs now.

The gorgeous, goddess-level pictures were shot by Lane Gross for Elle magazine, and in the accompanying interview, the “Dirty Laundry” singer shares how “Godmazing” it is “watching your body carry a human.”

Rowland also reveals that she “can’t wait” to be a mom. “I just have a couple more weeks. I’m excited to bring a child into the world, and sharing that experience with my husband [Tim Witherspoon] is probably the most beautiful part.”

kelly rowlandLance Gross/Elle via Instagram (@kellyrowland)

Speaking of beautiful things, the 33-year-old performer lists some of the food cravings she’s been stricken with during her pregnancy: “I love cherry pie and chocolate ice cream with peanut butter mixed in it. And I had a week straight where I was obsessed with nachos.” Wait, a week obsessed with nachos? Oh my god, you guys, I think I might be pregnant.

Oh, and maybe you’ve heard those rumors that Rowland is “campaigning to play Donna Summer” in a future biopic, and that that’s why she Instagrammed a very Summer-esque photo recently?

kelly rowlandInstagram (@kellyrowland)

Well, Kelly tells Elle (say that five times fast) that the doppel moment was just for fun. Although, she does add that playing the Queen of Disco “would be an amazing opportunity.”

So, you’re telling ...

Katy Perry Had The Best Weekend Ever At Ole Miss

by 16 mins ago

This past weekend, the Ole Miss Rebels played against their longtime Southeastern Conference rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide, and if you’re anything like me that roughly translates to “SOMETHING SOMETHING SPORTS IDK.” Yet thanks to surprise celebrity guest Katy Perry, I finally feel like I have a handle on college football.

If the “This Is How We Do” singer proved anything on Saturday, it’s that you don’t have to understand stats or players to enjoy the experience. Just come with a good attitude — and an openness to beer-chugging, corn dog-chucking and crowd-surfing — and you’ll have a good time. That lesson applies to most things in life tbh.

First, Katy popped by ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

Which means she got to do this with a corn dog on live TV.

And this.

And thiiiiiiiiis.

Then Ms. Perry kicked it with the Lucky Lady Rebelettes.

And cheered on the team during the big game.

Ole Miss won, btw. 23 to 17.

How did Katy celebrate? By chugging a beer and diving off the counter at a local bar.

Oh yeah, and since she was in the South, she got to eat all that duh-liiiiiiicious southern food.

I Survived A Spin Class Taught By Nicole Scherzinger

by 38 mins ago

There are many things I would do to listen to new pop music, and yesterday I pushed that willingness to the limit. No, I didn’t do anything shameful or humiliating — this time — but in order to listen to some of Nicole Scherzinger’s new music, I did something that I never thought I would do: take a spin class.

On Thursday night (October 2), I arrived at a Soul Cycle spot located in New York City’s West Village neighborhood. I’d often heard that patrons have a tendency to treat the brand with a devout sort of reverence, almost like a cult. But if I wanted to get an early listen to the former Pussycat Doll’s upcoming sophomore album, Big Fat Lie, I had no choice. I was ready for my baptism.

Me, texting a friend to “pray 4 me rn.”

Once I was all strapped into my stationary bike, my nerves began to settle. Partially because my shoes were literally hooked into the pedals (#NoEscape), but also because I was ready to fully give myself over to this new experience. Madeleine, our instructor and “expert at bikes that go nowhere,” began giving the “virgins” in the room (i.e., me) a bit of Soul Cycle 101.

And then Nicole walked in.

Looking casually stunning, in that low-key way only celebrities and distant first-year-of-college friend-crushes seem capable of, she made her way to the podium to join Madeleine on a neighboring bike. With ...

Artist To Watch: Meghan Trainor’s All About What’s Next

by 2 hours ago

“Gimme that title, title,” Meghan Trainor sings on the chorus of her latest single, “Title.” And though she’s talking about DTR (defining the relationship), she might as well be referring to some sort of official recognition of her hit-maker status on the pop music scene.

For the fourth week in a row, Meghan’s breakout song, “All About That Bass,” sits perched atop the Billboard Hot 100, beating out Top 40 heavyweights like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea for that coveted #1. And with a debut album in the works, there’s basically nothing that can treble trouble her ascent now.

Just in case you’re not all about MTV’s latest Artist To Watch yet, meet the young woman behind the smash hit.

Who She Is

There once was a girl from Nantucket.

Growing up off the coast of mainland Massachusetts, and then later in the Cape Cod village of Hyannis, Trainor’s formative years were filled with music. Her father, Gary, is a church organist, and her aunt and uncle, Lisa and Burton Toney, perform Caribbean-style soca music together as Island Vybe. Meghan would even perform with them from time to time, as evidenced by this video from 2011.

Writing songs since she was 7 years old, Trainor’s multi-instrumental skills on the piano, guitar, ukelele and all sorts of percussion landed her a deal with Nashville-based music publisher Big ...
