21 Musicians Who Changed Genre Mid-Career

by 5 mins ago

Taylor Swift isn’t the only musician who’s made a genre jump by declaring she’s going pop with her new album 1989. And while country fans still have a hard time letting that go (they still invite her to the CMA Awards), it’s working for her. But Tay isn’t alone.

Remember Hootie and the Blowfish? Well, lead singer Darius Rucker found his calling with country. And it turns out, a lot of your favorite female singers were in girl groups. Like the sultry R&B of Tinashe? She’s got edgy pop band roots with The Stunners. Fergie was in Wild Orchid, a sexy ’90s pop group, before taking on hip-hop with the Black Eyed Peas.

And you can date this trend as back as Bob Dylan, who shocked his folk fans when he went electric at the Newport Folk Festival in the 1960s. The scandal!

Check out the 21 artists who’ve gone their own way.

Christmas Is Coming Early This Year For Ariana Grande Fans And The Grammy Nominees

by 5 hours ago

Arianators, a whole lot of joy is coming to your world. Ariana is heading up a Christmas special with some very important announcements and everyone is invited. On December 5th, Ariana Grande is teaming up with a handful of stars including Pharrell, Maroon 5, and Tim McGraw for a television holiday special.

It will be the first ever iteration of a televised concert series called “A Very Grammy Christmas Special” and the stars will each be performing a mix of their own hits, alongside Christmas classics.

After all, Christmas carols aren’t going to sing themselves, and although we’re most excited to hear what Ariana brings to the table, this well-rounded mix of country, rock and R&B singers sounds like the right crew to celebrate the season in all its polyphonic glory. Can Pharrell work out a “Happy” and “Joy To The World” medley? Christmas, as they say, has no genre, but if it did then it would be pure, golden happiness.

Kind of like the happiness I feel when Ariana Grande is performing her tremendous rendition of “Last Christmas.” But if all that isn’t enough, the show will also be used to announce this year’s Grammy Award Nominees. That’s a good excuse to crack open the marshmallows and hot cocoa early if I’ve ever heard one.

2 Chainz Takes A Break From ‘Expensivest Sh–’ To Pop A ‘Xanny’

by 18 mins ago

2 Chainz has been busy as ever hosting the GQ show “Most Expensivest Shit,” which is about exactly what it sounds like. In between eating $300 hamburgers and brushing his teeth with $5000 toothbrushes the artist formerly known as Tity Boi has managed to record some new music. “Xanny,” featuring Skooly and Cap 1, emerged today on a mixtape called The Other Guys: Street Execs Priorities, by DJ Ace, DJ Penny Lane, DJ Tephlon, and DJ Tekniz.

The production rests on an eerie, repeating piano figure, overlaid by buzzing 808 programming. 2 Chainz fills up the space with typically Chainz-ian boasts about the consumption and distribution of narcotics, both in titanic quantities. He offers some brief medical advice: “If I can’t sleep, I’m gonna pop a xan. Then I get some money, I’m gonna pop a band.”

Chainz then switches into a rapid, Migos-inspired flow when discussing distribution: “Okay I don’ figured it out/I know what you n—-s about/We slangin’ narcotics you know that we got it/There’s never ever a drought.”

More than 10 years into his career, 2 Chainz is a skilled technician—while this flow isn’t totally original, Chainz has a way of swallowing and enunciating words that works effectively with the material.

Head over to Livemixtapes to stream the track or download the entire mixtape for free.

Drake Got Caught Up In The ‘Heat Of The Moment’ And Dropped Three New Tracks

by 7 mins ago

Just like last Sunday’s leaked Drake song, another new track from Drizzy called “Heat Of The Moment” has appeared mysteriously on the internet. This time, the song is through the OVO rapper’s own Soundcloud, so hopefully it won’t disappear on us.

And instead of sounding like a Nothing Was The Same cast-off, it has a brand new, woozy vibe punctuated by the sensual lyrics.

After shmoney dancing his birthday away, it seems like Drizzy was inspired to get back to work by a lengthy phone conversation with an older, wiser man. His capstone piece of advice? “Use a f–king condom!” At this, Drake dissolves into laughter.

And of course, since it’s Drake, there’s a bedroom voice snippet from an unknown woman. The track was produced by 40, but there’s no word on whether it’s a one off or if it will be on his upcoming album Views From The 6.

Ariana Grande Teases Her Halloween Costume By Rocking Dracula Fangs… And Her Cat Ears?

by 21 mins ago

Ariana Grande is generally known as a sweet and slightly reserved pop star. But tonight, in the spirit of Halloween mischief, she’s come to *Dracula voice* suck your blood! The “Break Free” singer posted a cute pic of herself all dolled up in vampire duds (is that red eye or some fierce contact lenses?!) and fangs on Instagram tonight (October 25).

So maybe it’s a few days before the actual holiday, but Ari seems eager to get a jumpstart on her Trick or Treating! Kidding, kidding we all know she’s probably going to be hanging out with her new boo (get it?!) Big Sean. Maybe they’ll go to a party with Kanye and Kim? Now I’m just brainstorming cute couple costumes for all of them.

This seemed to be just a sneak peek of a more complex costume though, as Ari wrote: “Fitted my vampire teeth yesterday. I’m being a very specific kind of vampire lol… you’ll see.” Not quite menacing, but definitely intriguing. Stay tuned until All Hallows Eve to see what Ari has up her sleeve. One more question, will her signature cat ears be involved, because that looks like them in the pic!

Actual Clowns Aren’t Happy With The Creepy Way ‘American Horror Story’ Portrays Their Profession

by 13 mins ago

Twisty the clown has already become one of the most iconic characters on “American Horror Story: Freak Show.” But multiple professional clown organizations have aired their grievances with the way he’s been portrayed.

Earlier this month (October 15), Glenn Kohlberger, the president of Clowns of America International, spoke out against casting clowns as horror villains.

“We do not support in any way, shape or form any medium that sensationalizes or adds to coulrophobia or ‘clown fear,’” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

Yesterday (October 24), the president of the World Clown Association, Randy Christensen, joined him by emphasizing that scary clowns shouldn’t be considered real clowns.

“The copycat clowns out in California — these are people finding some sick satisfaction in creeping people out,” he told Vulture. “These are not clowns. These are people that dress up as horror characters.”

The professionals in the clown business might be all about joy, love, and humor, but “American Horror Story” isn’t the only place where creepy clowns have been found recently. Wasco the clown terrorized Bakersfield, California, apparently as part of a photography project, and another mysterious clown popped up last Wednesday (October 22) in Indiana. Looks like the pros have a lot of PR damage control to handle.

Who Is Andre 3000 Working With Now? Timbaland Has The Answer

by 5 mins ago

By Andres Tardio

Timbaland and his recent signee Tink have a lot of new music to share and we’re excited to hear this could include verses from Jay Z and Andre 3000.

Timbo has been previewing some of Tink’s upcoming songs over the last month, but on Thursday (October 23), the producer finally revealed that two of the Tink songs he’s teased are actually collaborations with Jay Z and Andre 3000, two MCs who are notoriously picky about tracks they jump on.

Timbaland celebrated Tink’s efforts Thursday as he launched his Epic Records imprint, Mosley Music Group, according to The Fader. “Remember she’s a kid,” he said of Tink. “She’s not supposed to be this special.”

To hear the Andre 3000 collab preview, check the clip below. Though we’ve yet to hear 3 Stacks on the track, we can’t wait.

The Jay Z collaboration, which also sounds like it’s going to be a banger, is said to be previewed in the Instagram video below where Tim nods his head, sings along and feels the vibe as Tink lets loose.

Tink also reportedly has a track that opens with inspiration from Aaliyah’s “One In A Million.” Aaliyah, of course, worked extensively with Timbo before her tragic passing in 2001. Tim’s work with Aaliyah is at least part of the reason Tink admires the producer so much.

“He’s a legend,” she told Billboard in June. “He worked with people I grew up listening and watching [like] Aaliyah ...

Kiesza’s ‘No Enemiesz’ Video Will Have You Dancing In Your Chair

by 16 mins ago

Have you checked out Kiesza yet? Cuz you’re going to want to. The Candaian experimental pop singer-and-dancer has been turning Brooklyn into her own personal dance studio since she stepped on the scene of Wythe Avenue earlier this year for the acclaimed “Hideaway” video.

Her sophomore album Sound Of A Woman officially came out earlier this week (October 21), but the singer didn’t rest on her laurels at all, following it up with this new video for “No Enemiesz.” As always, she can’t stop moving, and her moves are just as head-turning as her earlier clips.

But Kiesza also seems unable to stop shedding layers as she dances throughout the loft apartment, stripping down right till the end of the track. There’s a reason this girl was a VMA nominee for best choreography—she knows how to move. Watch for yourself below:

Iggy Azalea Is Not Impressed With Jim Carrey’s Antics In These ‘SNL’ Promo Clips

by 20 mins ago

Iggy Azalea and Jim Carrey appeared together in a promotional clip for the forthcoming episode of Saturday Night Live this weekend. Carey starts off the clip with a typically zany gag, repeating “Iggy. Iggy! IGGY!” in increasingly goofy voices, his face the same elastic rubber ball as always. He has an enduring, invincible personal brand.

Iggy loses her patience eventually: “You done?” she snaps, her Aussie accent bone-dry. He’s not done. Get a glimpse of the duo’s humor below:

The episode they’re promoting is in celebration of Halloween, so accordingly, Carrey slips on a pair of false teeth, and laughs maniacally. “Thank you for that,” responds Azalea, smirking coldly. The false teeth make a second appearance when Carrey slips into parody rapper mode: “Yo yo yo, J-Car and Iggy Azalea, dropping mad rhymes and…”—he’s interrupted by the false teeth slipping from his mouth, which is probably for the best

Both artists are going on “SNL” tonight (October 25) to promote new projects. Carrey is touting his upcoming Dumb and Dumber 2, a sequel to his class 90’s hit out November 14th. Iggy, meanwhile, will perform a new song called “Beg for It” for the first time, featuring Swedish popstar MØ. She is also promoting an upcoming album, Reclassified, out next month.

Tune in tonight at 11:30 p.m. to catch the all new episode.
