Lauren Conrad And William Tell Step Out As Husband And Wife

by 26 mins ago

For Lauren Conrad and William Tell, attending one annual sporting match — the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic, to be exact — holds some very sweet significance.

The glowing newlyweds, who recently returned to SoCal after their romantic Mediterranean honeymoon, made their first public appearance as husband and wife at the event this past Saturday. While the former “Hills” star opted to walk the red carpet solo, the color-coordinated duo eventually cozied up to one another as they observed the horseback action from the sidelines.

But if the Tells’ trip to the rodeo is giving you a case of déjà vu, there’s a reason: The lovebirds attended the same star-studded event, held at the Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades, two years ago — and it was their first public outing as a couple.

Look at these kids, madly in love — and making sure that their polka-dot ensembles matched for the glitzy game, even back in their dating days!

But back to the present. The fashion designer gushed to US Weekly about her new relationship status — and what it’s really like to be a Mrs.

Could Listening To Hip-Hop Help Treat Mental Illness?

by 34 mins ago

Hip-hop has long been a therapeutic outlet for artists, allowing them to express themselves and voice issues, and work through those issues in the music. Now, scientists at Cambridge University in England are looking to prove that hip-hop — both listening to it and writing raps — can actually help treat mental illness.

“There is so much more to hip-hop than the public realizes,” Becky Inkster, a neuroscientist in the university’s department of psychiatry, told The Guardian. She and consultant psychiatrist Akeem Sule have teamed up to form Hip Hop Psych.

“I grew up in the ’90s during the golden era of hip-hop, when it exploded into mainstream culture. It is rich in references to psychiatric illnesses that have not been properly explored and which could be of enormous benefit to patients. We want to work with rappers, charities, medical groups and others to promote its real potential.”

Of course, hip-hop has been used as a teaching tool a number of times in the past. Bun B taught Religious Studies 331: Religion and Hip-Hop Culture at Rice University, The Textual Appeal of Tupac Shakur was offered at the University of Washington, and Georgia Regents University launched a class based on the work of Kendrick Lamar and his debut album this year.

But Hip Hop Psych believes that the music can not only be studied, but also used as an actual treatment for patients dealing with psychiatric problems.

“One technique we want to explore is ...

Lorde Sang The ‘I Am Lorde’ Song From ‘South Park’ And It Was Perfect

by 21 mins ago

If we didn’t already think Lorde was the coolest girl in music (have you not seen our embarrassingly gushy articles on the teen?), the 17-year-old singer’s game acceptance of her “South Park” parody would have convinced us.

The latest evidence of her awesomeness? Ella sang the “I Am Lorde Ya Ya Ya” song from the first infamous episode during an interview. She shared the excerpt via a tweet this past weekend.

If you were hiding from the world of pop culture these past few weeks, Lorde appeared in two — count ‘em, two! — “South Park” episodes. In the first, the kids try to put together a charity concert featuring Lorde — and then there’s some stuff about gluten — only to find out that Lorde is just Stan’s dad in disguise. When she reappears in the next episode, we discover that Randy Marsh wasn’t just dressing up as Lorde — he is Lorde.

Lorde didn’t really speak up about the episodes until the second one had aired, posting clips from “her” second appearance to Instagram and applauding the show’s message of transgender acceptance. Coolest girl in the music world? We think yes.

this is actually surprisingly cute – and from what i can tell also has a message of transgender acceptance (i'm still very new with this type of humour so i'm not sure if was actually genuine but it seemed so to me)

Also, if James Franco isn’t your thing, Elliott’s “Color Me Good” series includes Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch versions, too, among others. Although, let’s be honest, they can’t possibly rival Franco’s selfies in terms of sheer weirdness and/or nipple exposure.

‘Challenge’ Standout Sarah Rice Is Engaged: See Her Ring!

by 15 mins ago

In the scope of “The Challenge,” being part of a pair hasn’t gone so well for Sarah Rice (see: her premature “Exes” ousting and her early “Rivals II” expulsion), but outside of the game, serving as one of two suits her just fine.

The most eager competitor around has yet to cross the finish line first, but she’s just locked down the man of her dreams and announced yesterday that she and Landon Patterson are officially engaged! What’s more, they sealed the deal at a place called The Magic Castle Hotel in Los Angeles. Omen much?

“GUESS WHO JUST GOT ENGAGED!!! This chick!!! I’m so happy to be engaged to the most wonderful man I’ve ever known!! I love you @iatewhat!!!” Sarah captioned the Instagram photo above. Considering Landon’s tatted and tough but still seemingly sweet, we’d say he’s pretty much a perfect match for Sarah. Plus, the rock he got her looks like it belongs in The Smithsonian.

How To Make Sure You’re OK With Casual Sex: The One-Night Stand Checklist

by 15 mins ago

Girl Code” tackled a huge topic in this season’s premiere, “Sexuality.” In the discussion, the topic of casual sex comes up. Now, it’s certainly not for everyone. If you are interested though, you should really think it all the way through first. Learning how to have a one-night stand can mean the difference between it feeling like a mistake and a simple right of passage. And when there’s unnecessary shame associated with sleeping around (especially for women), it’s hard to find proper guidance. For you and your not-so-serious partner’s sake, it’s best to answer the following questions before hooking up.

Watch the full episode here:

1. Am I A Virgin?
Casual sex can be a great way to gain experience, but when it’s your only experience it can bring on more baggage than sex in a relationship. That doesn’t mean your first time has to be perfect (because it totally wont be), but don’t have a one-night stand just to get over with either.

2. Do I Have Protection?
You don’t have to be a boy scout to always be prepared. Planned Parenthood and other clinics are literally giving condoms away. Plus, stores sell them to you even if you can’t stop giggling.

3. Am I Comfortable Talking About Condoms?
As experience has unfortunately shown, having a condom isn’t enough. You have to be able to say, “Can you put this on or leave?” Asking that doesn’t make things weird – having unprotected sex because you’re afraid of being awkward does.

4. Do I Want A ...

Remember ‘Jumanji’? You Can Visit Part Of The Set, 19 Years Later

by 22 mins ago

Almost 20 years ago, the film “Jumanji” turned a few different locations in New England into an East Coast safari. One of those locations was Keene, New Hampshire, and some of the changes that the film crew made have last to this day.

One such relic is a brick wall in town that still bears an advertisement for Parrish Shoes. A photo of the painting popped up on reddit with an extra touching detail.

jumanji-wall

When the photo on reddit was taken, there were still some photos of Robin Williams posted to the wall as a memorial to the actor after his death.

The combined hits of nostalgia are a nice reminder of the lasting power of movies – and the people who make them so enjoyable.

Writer/editor for MTV. If it involves cowboys, spies, or hitmen, I'm there. All three would be ideal.

Here’s How ‘The Walking Dead’ Baseball Bat Scene Played Out In The Comics

by 16 mins ago

The opening scene of “The Walking Dead” season five premiere was one of the show’s tensest moments yet: Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Glenn Rhee and Bob Stookey were placed in front of a trough, helpless to watch as four other unfortunate souls were clubbed in the back of their heads with baseball bats, and their throats slashed open with knives.

The baseball bat scene was one of the most sickening sequences of the entire night, and quite possibly the entire series. Thankfully, all four of the main characters involved in the scene survived with their heads and throats intact — but it could have played out very differently, based on a similar scene in the “Walking Dead” comics.

WARNING: Spoilers from “The Walking Dead” comics are ahead!

Unlike HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which faithfully adapts George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels almost to the letter, AMC’s “Walking Dead” often and deliberately deviates from writer Robert Kirkman’s source material, completely skipping scenes from the comics, or adding entirely new ones when inspiration strikes. Daryl Dixon does not exist in the “Walking Dead” comics, for example. Lori Grimes’ death on the show is much different than her death on the paneled page.

Likewise, Terminus is a wildcard, because it’s not in the comics. But there is a memorable baseball bat scene in “The Walking Dead” #100, and the writers were very much calling upon it during the season premiere.

‘Mortal Instruments’ Will Live Again … As A TV Series

by 21 mins ago

Even though the “City of Bones” crumbled at the box office, the world has not seen the last of the “Mortal Instruments” franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production house Constantin Film has decided to continue the “Mortal Instruments” series … on television!

Written by fantasy author Cassandra Clare, “The Mortal Instruments” follows a young woman named Clary Fray who learns that she’s a Shadowhunter — a human with angelic blood. Six novels exist in Clare’s series, the first of which, “City of Bones,” was the basis of a 2013 feature film that earned a mere $31.1 million at the domestic box office. Based on the lackluster returns, Constantin’s plans for further “Mortal Instruments” movies were shelved, though the production company insisted that the franchise would live on. With the announcement of a TV show, they’re living up to their word.

“It actually makes sense to do [the novels] as a TV series,” Constantin’s Martin Moszkowicz says of the decision to continue “Mortal Instruments” on the small-screen. “There was so much from the book that we had to leave out of the ‘Mortal Instruments’ film. In the series we’ll be able to go deeper and explore this world in greater detail and depth.”

It’s early days yet, which means there are plenty of questions. Who will star in the “Mortal Instruments” series? Will casting carry over from “City of Bones” to the TV show, or will Constantin find new actors to take on Clary, Jace and the others? Will the show ...
