Asher Roth Gets Nostalgic In ‘Parties At The Disco’ Video

by 12 mins ago

“Parties at the Disco,” the opening song from Asher Roth’s latest album, Retro Hash, has a bit of a nostalgic feel. And it turns out the video for the song, which dropped on Friday (July 25), follows suit.

The ZZ Ward-assisted track celebrates the simpler times in life, when stress may have come in the form of a homework assignment, or not getting invited to someone’s birthday party. “Gotta chill, sit down, remember how to be a child/ Wide eyes with a smile/ What? When? Where? How?,” he raps on the first verse.

The video has a similar throwback vibe, with 8mm camera-style shots, and blurry scenes of Ash, ZZ Ward and various landscapes.

Later, he adds a message anyone can get with, so take this one with you into the weekend: “Lose some, you win some, so have fun/ Don’t stress, or do flips, just press on.”

True, indeed.

Exclusive: We’ve Got Your First Look At Nick Jonas’ ‘Chains’ Music Video

by 54 mins ago

If you can’t get enough of Nick Jonas’ new single “Chains,” have no fear, because the music video for the track is coming soon. MTV will be premiering it this Wednesday, July 30 at 6 a.m. ET on MTV, MTV Hits, mtvU, and MTV.com (insert freak out here: ______.)

I know what you’re thinking, but this is not a test. I repeat: This is not a test. Come next week, you’ll be able to watch “Chains” in its entirety. And if you’re not sure what to do with yourself between now and then, we’ve got a sneak peek to tide you over in the meantime.

But wait, it doesn’t stop there. We’ll have four more teases on Monday and Tuesday, so make sure to check back with us then. Because according to Nick — yeah, I spoke to him earlier this week — the vid is unlike anything you’ve seen from him before.

“There is a loose storyline. The thing that I wanted to protect is that all of my videos in the past have had a story and a narrative and the story lines have been pretty complex,” he explained. “I wanted this one to just be like an art piece, like a trailer to a cinematic movie and really have the tone of the song connected to the visual because it is dark and edgy and I think this video really captures that, it’s a really beautiful visual.”

Big K.R.I.T. Drops New Single ‘Pay Attention’ Featuring Rico Love

by 1 hour ago

Fans who have been waiting on Big K.R.I.T. to deliver new music (like the one writing this) were treated to just that on Friday afternoon (July 25) with the release of “Pay Attention,” featuring Rico Love.

The track — in many ways showcasing the bread and butter of Krizzle’s talents, with its hard rhymes and Southern flavor — is particularly distinct from his past work in one major way: It’s not self-produced.

After producing the entirety of each of his acclaimed mixtapes, as well as his 2012 Def Jam debut, Live from the Underground, the Mississippi native got with Jim Jonsin for his latest, which is off of his upcoming sophomore album Cadillactica.

With Rico on the hook, K.R.I.T. pens a love song for the strip club.

From ‘Thong Song’ To ‘Love On Top’: The 11 Most Epic Key Changes In Pop Music

by 12 mins ago

By Jamie Peck

The key change is one of the most surefire tools in a musician’s arsenal. Just when you think the feels your favorite singer is putting out can’t get any more intense, everything shifts up half a step and BOOM, it’s a whole new ballgame. Who knew such an itty bitty musical change could make something sound so totally different? (Think Vanilla Ice’s much-maligned, Queen-sampling “Ice Ice Baby”)

Sometimes referred to as “modulations” (not exactly the same thing, but close enough for our purposes), key changes have been prized for centuries for their ability to add spice to a piece of music. Said French composer and music theorist Charles-Henri de Blainville in 1767: “Modulation is the essential part of the art.” Translation? key changes are everything.

So not to get all technical, but you’ve got to be wondering how they work. Well, most songs are written in a particular key. Each key has its own character; for instance, the key of C major sounds happier than A minor. Depending how a song shifts from one key to another, it could be barely detectable to the untrained ear, or a totally cheesy 10-gun salute straight into your brain. Guess which is more popular with chart-topping songwriters?

Certain curmudgeons have accused artists of using abrupt key changes as a cheap ploy to simulate drama when they’ve run out of ideas for a song. But I say, All’s fair in love and pop. In that spirit, I give ...

Laughter Is Coming In The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Blooper Reel

by 19 mins ago

If there’s one thing we know about HBO’s “Game Of Thrones,” its that it’s a very serious show. Deaths, anguish, darkness: there’s barely ever any light on screen to lift the tension between deadly weddings.

But behind the scenes? The cast, they do have fun, and as a season four blooper reel ably showed off to fans at the show’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, they also screw up their lines… A lot.

Highlight? The deadly, undead White Walker falling off of his high horse — though Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) dancing is a very, very close second.

“Game of Thrones” returns next Spring.

5 Surprising Reasons Why A Wedding Makes A Great First Tinder Date

by 24 mins ago

Tinder is for people who want to find each other without wasting time. If you REALLY want to date efficiently, meet the person for the first time at a family wedding. Don’t believe me?

Enter Tinder Terri. “Tinder” isn’t her real first name. That’s a nickname she got when she showed up to a first date at a wedding. Her date’s family organically started calling her that.

When I asked her why should would agree to such a thing, she answered, “He’s not going to murder me at a family wedding.” And guess what, he didn’t. Even crazier he (Shane) became her boyfriend and they’re still dating months later.

Like you, this struck me as shocking. However, after speaking with Tinder Terri, I now find it more shocking that more singles aren’t utilizing this tradition for a great first date. Here’s why:

1. Get The Family Part Over Early

meet-the-family2

“I met more of his family than anybody else he previously dated,” Terri confessed. That can come with more serious implications. But for Shane, it was just his way of saying, “I have a really cool family.” They’re not pressuring him him to marry the first hot person to mutually swipe right, but are open-minded and down with whatever hook up technology the kids are using.

The kind of person who thinks meeting the family fast-forwards you into a serious relationship stage would be looking for anything to accelerate it. Taking them to a wedding brings this to the surface faster, so you ...

Evangeline Lilly Says She Isn’t In ‘Ant-Man,’ But She Totally Is

by 25 mins ago

For Evangeline Lilly, the rules of starring in “Ant-Man” are simple:

Rule #1: Don’t talk about “Ant-Man.”

Rule #2: Don’t talk about “Ant-Man.”

The “Lost” veteran, appearing at San Diego Comic-Con to promote her new children’s book, “The Squickerwonkers,” is taking a page from the “Fight Club” playbook when it comes to her involvement in the upcoming Marvel Studios superhero movie. For months, Lilly has been linked to a lead role in the Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas-starring comic book film, though her participation has not been officially confirmed by Marvel — and as such, Lilly’s taking the “lips sealed” approach to discussing all things “Ant-Man.”

“I don’t know what that’s about,” she told MTV about appearing in “Ant-Man.” “This is the first time I’m hearing about that idea.”

The look on Lilly’s face and tone in her voice makes it pretty clear that her comments and the truth are not the same thing. Take a look for yourself and see:

Put it in the bank: Lilly is in “Ant-Man.”

Likes pizza, punch and pie. Dislikes the Chitauri.

The ‘Teen Wolf’ Hit List’s Targets Are Fighting Back In The Season 4 Mid-Season Trailer

by 2 mins ago

So the benevolent Scott McCall didn’t take out The Benefactor’s assassin Violet when he had the chance, but let’s be clear — in the coming episodes of “Teen Wolf,” all bets are off.

In the mid-season trailer below, as a slew of killers continues to bear down on Lydia, Kira and Beacon Hills’ many other supernatural creatures for paychecks, Derek finally decides to stand up and fight. And by the looks of things, kitsunes and banshees alike seem to be on board. But in the fight for survival, Scott appears to tap into total bloodlust, and we shudder at the notion that we’re slowly losing our canvasser of justice to the dark side.

Either way, the gang will soon face total extermination, and as more and more killers sign on to make some dough, the blood will continue to spill. Judging by Mama McCall’s scream, we’re in for some heavy losses.

“Maybe we should all be running from Beacon Hills,” Malia says as the walls start to cave in around her. “Running for our lives.”

Well, we can’t say we disagree with that!

Check out the trailer, and be sure to tune in to an all-new episode of “Teen Wolf” Monday night at 10/9c!
