Cyhi The Prynce, Joell Ortiz And Royce Da 5’9″ Tell Hood Tales On ‘Huey (Remix)’

by 6 mins ago

In February, Cyhi the Prynce dropped his Black Hystori Project mixtape, and on Wednesday (July 2) — the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 — he released a remix to one of the tape’s standouts, “Huey.”

The updated version includes a new verse from the Atlanta rapper, as well as from Royce Da 5’9″ and Joell Ortiz. The three flex their lyrical talents while they tell tales of rising above the street life that they grew up around.

The song is named for Huey Newton, a co-founder of the Black Panther Party.

Cardo Explains How Big Sean Almost Had Jeezy And Jay Z’s ‘Seen It All’ Beat

by 23 mins ago

God works in mysterious ways; that’s the belief that Cardo has subscribed to after producing Jeezy and Jay Z’s new single “Seen it All.”

The track, which was released Tuesday, features the Snowman and Hov recalling their drug-filled past over a beat marked by swirling flutes, a lush string section and pounding 808s. It’s a new sound for the Fort Worth, Texas native, who made his name producing for Wiz Khalifa.

“I was definitely at the crib. This was in November of 2012 when I made the joint,” he recalled during a phone conversation with MTV News on Wednesday (July 2). “I was just in a whole ‘nother mood when I made the joint. The sample is from a Japanese artist named Tazz and the song’s called ‘Twilight.’ It just made me picture the Japan night life and the culture, with the neon lights and the people. I wanted to make something very melodic, and atmospheric.”

Originally, Cardo meant to send the beat to Big Sean and Travis Scott, but after an e-mail mix-up, the track ended up with Jeezy. “I never had Jeezy or Jay Z in mind for it; Big Sean was a person I pictured on it, and Travis Scott,” he said. “I sent to Jeezy by accident. I had two beats named under the same [name] in my folder for some reason and it got duplicated. I don’t know what happened; sometimes I’ll name the beat the same thing for some damn reason.”

These 15 Essential (And Free) Websites Will Help You Survive College

by 39 mins ago

You can thank us later.

1. Ebates grants all of your wildest dreams by literally paying you to shop
If you’re an Internet shopaholic, it’s time to make Ebates your BFF. Every time you shop online Ebates credits a tiny portion of the total purchase, typically ranging from 1 to 4%, to your PayPal account. You won’t be rolling in the dough anytime soon, but the small amounts add up quickly. And you automatically get a $10 gift card to stores like Macy’s or Target just for joining the site (though let’s be real, when was the last time you spent only $10 at Target?).

Not every online retailer participates in the deal — shoe hoarders, I’m sorry to report that Zappos hasn’t joined the Ebates party yet — but there’s over 1,000 stores to choose from. So feel free to continue splurging on things that look awesome online but mehh in real life.

2. The Struggle Bus, college’s answer to the classic stress ball
The Struggle Bus lets you vent about your roommate’s dirty dishes AND destroy a bus at the same time. Just type in your worries and watch the struggle bus crumble to pieces. It’s strangely cathartic.

3. Music-Map, For when you’ve already memorized your favorite band’s “Related Artists” page on Spotify
This simple map shows you exactly how hundreds of artists are musically related to each other. Type in “Blink 182,” for instance, and it helps you find similar music by spitting ...

The Stars of ‘Girl Meets World’ Both Love A Certain Show From Back In The Day

by 39 mins ago

The stars of “Girl Meets World” may not have watched “Boy Meets World” when the show was enjoying its run on ABC — one of them wasn’t even born! — but that hasn’t stopped both from becoming big fans of the original series.

Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter, who play best friends Riley and Maya on “Girl,” eventually tuned into “Boy” as a form of research for their roles — but that’s not the only reason.

“‘Boy Meets World’ happens to be a fantastic show, so we wanted to watch it, too,” 12-year-old Rowan says in the interview clip, below.

In fact, she and 15-year-old Sabrina got hooked on the series, which ended its run in early 2000.

“I constantly find myself watching the reruns of [it],” Sabrina admits. Such an old soul.

Don’t forget that you, too, can wax nostalgic weekday mornings from 9/8c-1/12c with reruns of “Saved By The Bell” and “Boy Meets World” on MTV2!

Oh, Sheezus: Miley Cyrus Adds Lily Allen To Bangerz Tour

by 5 mins ago

As if her Bangerz Tour wasn’t fierce enough, Miley Cyrus has added Sheezus herself, Lily Allen, to the bill for seven dates this summer.

Miley’s made her Bangerz trek a pretty raucous one — riding on inflatable penises and on an equally suggestive hotdog — but considering Lily Allen brought this video into the word, we’re thinking she’s up to the challenge.

To support Sheezus, which she dropped back in May, the “Hard Out Here” singer will hit the road on her first North American tour in five years this September.

Also on Wednesday (July 2), Lily shared the new video for “URL Badman,” a colorful, snark-soaked shot at Internet bloggers and trolls.

Allen will join Miley on the following Bangerz Tour dates:

»8/1 – Uniondale, NY – Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
»8/2 – Philadelphia, PA – Wells Fargo Center
»8/4 – Pittsburgh, PA – CONSOL Energy Center
»8/6 – Charlotte, NC – Time Warner Cable Arena
»8/7 – Nashville, TN – Bridgestone Arena
»8/9 – Louisville, KY – KFC Yum! Center
»8/10 – St Louis, MO – Scottrade Center

Nick Cannon’s Directing Method? ‘Just Let ‘Em Do Their Thing’

by 1 min ago

Nick Cannon has worn many hats during his lengthy career, from rapper to actor to television host. And with “School Dance,” in theaters on Wednesday (July 2), he added another to his resume: director.

Cannon wrote, produced and directed the film, and though he doesn’t appear in it himself, some true comedy heavyweights like Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, George Lopez and Katt Williams all do.

So how did Nick handle the new responsibilities?

“I feel like I’m one of those directors that — especially with comedy — [I say], Man, just have fun,” he told MTV News. “Here’s the blueprint, the script, and if you can make it better, make it better. And everybody did that. I mean, how do you tell Mike Epps how to be funny? How do you tell Kevin Hart how to be funny? How do you tell Katt Williams how to deliver a punchline? You don’t. You just let ‘em do their thing, and you capture it.”

Also cast in the film is Amber Rose, who plays MaryWanna, a senior at the high school that the protagonist attends. She sang Nick’s praises as a director.

“Nick is amazing,” she told MTV News. “He’s patient. He’s smart. He’s sweet. He’s a genuinely nice guy. And you don’t really find that with celebrities. A lot of them are, like, you know, a-holes. But he’s not.”

Despite the big names in the film, and this being his directorial debut, Cannon sounded at ease.

“The most fun was getting people like Kevin Hart ...

by 11 mins ago

As Taylor Swift (and her roster of heartache songs) can tell you, love ain’t easy. Throw the subject of sex into the mix and all bets are off, especially if you’re still navigating the often-tricky world of virginity. Awkward talks with your parents, friends who can’t relate to your V-card status, and the pressure to succumb to temptation are all par for the course.

MTV’s new docu-series, “Virgin Territory,” will explore the lives of 15 young adults who have yet to swipe their V-card — they’re either waiting until marriage or trying to lose it. We’ll be making cast introductions leading up to the July 16 premiere, starting with these five folks:

The-Dream Takes A Stand Against Injustice In ‘Black’ Video

by 12 mins ago

The-Dream treated us to plenty of sexually explicit visuals on his last album, IV Play, but in the new video for “Black,” he has a much deeper message to share. He first revealed the lyric video in the midst of uproar over Donald Sterling’s racist comments, and the full clip coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, capturing the spirit of that pivotal era.

Set in South Africa’s Langa Township, the video finds The-Dream surrounded by protesters in a march, carrying signs that represent a number of different causes, ranging from Occupy Wall Street to calls for a free Ukraine.

People of all shapes, colors, genders and sexual orientations are represented in the video, and we’re sure that Kanye West would be especially proud of the banner that reads, “classism is the new racism.”

“I needed to take a step in a direction away from my comfort zone and do and say and sing something worthwhile,” The-Dream said in a statement about his video.

“I think this way all the time, and I spend most of my day in the battle of being Black and being a minority. Money has not changed my status in the department of racism and or classism. I take a step in this direction in order to no longer ignore the real part of life that exists after I walk out of a studio, after I take an award at a show, and after I drop my kids off ...
