Drake Thought Macklemore’s Grammy Apology Text To Kendrick Was ‘Wack As F–k’

Macklemore’s post-Grammys apology tour really rubbed some people the wrong way, and one of the offended happens to be Drake. The YMCMB rapper is usually pretty reserved when it comes to doling out criticism, but he had a mouthful to say about Macklemore’s decision to publicly share a text message he sent to Kendrick Lamar, following his big wins in January.

The Seattle rapper picked up four awards on Grammy night, including one for Best Rap Album, which left him feeling like he had to explain himself. He Instagrammed a screenshot of a text message he sent to Kendrick, which began with, “You got robbed. I wanted you to win.”

Drake felt that Macklemore took it way too far, telling Rolling Stone that he thought, “that sh– was wack as f–k.” Well, tell ’em how you really feel Drizzy.

“I was like, ‘You won. Why are you posting your text message? Just chill. Take your W, and if you feel you didn’t deserve it, go get better — make better music,'” he continued. “It felt cheap. It didn’t feel genuine. Why do that? Why feel guilt? You think those guys would pay homage to you if they won?”

“This is how the world works: He made a brand of music that appealed to more people than me, Hov, Kanye and Kendrick. Whether people wanna say it’s racial, or whether it’s just the fact that he tapped into something we can’t tap into. That’s just how the cards fall. Own your sh–.”

While Drake does have a valid point, I’ll admit to being a little surprised by his response since he usually favors saying nothing at all, versus saying something negative. Even after being name-dropped by Kendrick on “Control” he kept the responses pretty PC, and for all the jokes he fields about his “emotional” music and criticism that it sometimes strays outside of hip-hop, it seemed like he might’ve had a little more understanding of how uncomfortable Macklemore felt in that situation.

But maybe this one really stuck a chord since his third album Nothing Was the Same was also nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards. “To name just Kendrick? That sh– made me feel funny,” Drake concluded. “No, in that case, you robbed everybody. We all need text messages!”
