Forget those buds peeking out and the giant piles of filthy snow finally melting away, on the Billboard 200 album chart it’s still winter. Notching its sixth non-consecutive week at #1, the soundtrack to “Frozen” will be back on top thanks to sales of 99,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
First To A Milli
With last week’s figures, sales to date for the soundtrack moved to 1.4 million, with 1.1 million coming in 2014, making the album the first platinum-seller of the year so far.
Just behind was Luke Bryan’s Spring Break 6 … Like We Ain’t Ever digital EP, which moved 74,000 to land at #2, giving Bryan two titles in the top 20.
All Blacc Everything
Aloe Blacc is finally getting his time to shine with Lift Your Spirit. The “Wake Me Up” hookman has scored his own hit with “The Man” and Spirit landed him at #4 on sales of 45,000. It was also a solid week for long-running ska rockers 311, whose Stereolithic debuted at #6 (41,000).
Big Dippin’
After hitting #1 last week, Rick Ross’ Mastermind
lost 73 percent of its business, moving down to #3 as sales tailed off to 49,000. It was also a big second week comedown for Pharrell Williams, with G I R L
dipping by 60 percent to 45,000 as it slipped three spots to #5.
Young Money Rise To The Top
Among the other top debuts this week was the latest from Lil Wayne’s crew, Young Money’s Rise Of An Empire.
The posse album featuring songs by Drake, Weezy, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Lil Twist and Gudda Gudda, came in at #7 on sales of 31,000, besting the #9 debut of 2009’s We Are Young Money, but well below that disc’s first-week numbers (142,000).
The rest of the top 10: Lorde, Pure Heroine (#8, 27,000), Sara Evans, Slow Me Down (#9, 27,000) and Eric Church, Outsiders (#10, 23,000).
DeRulo’s “Dirty” Hits Double Platinum
Pharrell’s smash “Happy” won’t give up its iron grip on the #1 spot on the Billboard Digital Songs chart, moving another 364,000 copies. But Jason DeRulo had another great week as well.
While John Legend’s quiet storm smash “All of Me” held down the #2 spot (215,000), DeRulo’s collabo with 2 Chainz, kept the #3 spot as sales were up a fraction to 198,000. That was enough to push him to the 2.2 million mark, giving the singer his fourth double-platinum single.
