Hope your credit’s good, because the utter Britishness that is Tom Hiddleston in the just-released Super Bowl spot for Jaguar is going to make you want to run out and apply for an auto loan, stat.
As if we Americans didn’t already feel inferior to the Brits and their cool accents, the luxury car company will air an ultra-British commercial featuring Hiddleston, Ben Kinsgley and Mark Strong — all of whom have played high-profile villains recently — talking about being badass and loving power. But enough about the explosions, let’s talk about how damn British this thing is.
» Hiddleston is literally sipping tea throughout the commercial, guys.
» Tom Hooper, director of “The King’s Speech,” directed the spot and is so British that he may well have been born wearing a cardigan.
» Strong was the villain in “Sherlock Holmes,” perhaps the most British franchise ever.
» Kingsley is a knight.
OK, now that we understand just how Queen-loving this commercial is, we can move on with our lives. (Time is money, and you’re going to need money to buy that Jag.)
The spot, titled “Rendezvous,” depicts Strong driving the company’s F-Type Coupe through London, while Kingsley and Hiddleston go to meet him for some sort of Good-Looking Bad Guys Club.
