Here’s The First Ever Plus-Size Brand To Show At London Fashion Week

It’s hard to believe, but before yesterday, there has never been a plus-size collection featured at London Fashion Week. Ever. Sir Philip Green (the man behind the Topshop empire) paired UK retailer Evans with designers Giles Deacon, Clements Ribeiro, Hema Kaul, Lulu Liu, Jamie Wei Huang and Vita Gottlieb to create The Design Collective for Evans, which mixed in-house looks with each designer’s own pieces. He told WWD, “This is a big and important part of the market, and we need to be seen to embrace it. You cannot ignore the market place. And you can’t be defensive about it, or apologize about [plus-size fashion]. Why should the category be any different from petite?”

Nicolette Mason—who attended the show alongside fellow style bloggers Gabi Gregg and Nadia Aboulhosn—shared her excitement on Instagram saying, “Today @evansclothing became the first plus size brand to show at London Fashion Week!! I feel so lucky to have been part of this history-making event. This asymmetric pleated dress with leather details was one of my absolute favorites! #cutforevans #evanscollective #lfw.”

The collection featured tons of breezy, spring-ready pieces, like palazzo pants paired with bustier crop tops and form-fitting printed frocks, which will all be available to purchase in February 2015. “This is day one,” Sir Philip Green said. “It’s a good start, and it’s the product that has to do the talking. The question is ‘How do you make an impact?’ I’m pleased we could do this show, and I’ll be very interested to see who tries to follow us.” Check out even more looks from the runway below!
