Is Taylor Swift Done With Dating? ‘I Just Don’t See How It Could Work’

Critics may say she can’t make guys stay, but maybe that’s just because Taylor Swift really doesn’t want them to.

The pop star makes her British Vogue cover debut (hello slicked-back hair!) for the mag’s November issue, and talks about how she is no way looking for love at the moment.

“Dating or finding someone is the last thing on my mind, because I can’t picture how it could work with the way my life is,” said Taylor, who has dated Harry Styles, Joe Jonas and John Mayer, among other celeb heartthrobs.

“I don’t know how a guy is supposed to walk next to his girlfriend when there are 20 men with cameras, and he can’t protect his girlfriend because that’s the life she chose,” she continued. “I just don’t see how it could work, so I don’t think about it, and I kind of run from it when it presents itself ’cause I don’t think any guy really. … They think that they would want to get to know me and maybe date me, but I don’t think they want what comes with it.”

Now finding a boyfriend willing to dodge photographers isn’t really a problem for you and me — but that doesn’t mean Taylor isn’t just like us.

“The one thing I wish these girls that come to my shows knew is that they are exactly where I was when I was a teenager,” Taylor confessed. “I had no idea who I was! I was going through all these phases. I was trying on different outfits and all these different personalities, trying to figure out what category I fit into, and which clique I would be accepted in,” she explained. “But if you just keep doing ‘you,’ and being who you are and doing what feels natural to you, maybe you won’t find a place where you fit in for a very long time, but you eventually will.”

That “keep doing you” motto echoes the meaning behind her latest hit single, “Shake It Off,” and is also clearly a representation of what Swifties will get from her upcoming album, 1989.

“This time around, I’ve chosen the brave and bold way of going about things. Because with this album I’ve completely changed the sound of everything I’ve done until now,” she said about her fifth studio effort, out October 27. “So it’s interesting to not be afraid of that. You know, I don’t want to hurt people’s feelings, I don’t want to betray Nashville, whatever, but essentially it comes down to challenging yourself as an artist.”
