Jennifer Lawrence Shows Off Spectacular ’70s Looks In ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Featurette

It’s easy to take the more technical parts of a movie for granted. Like in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” when we see Jennifer Lawrence and a huge crowd of extras in an airport, all dressed in authentic ’70s outfits, a good movie will make the period aspect seem effortless, when it reality, it took a ton of work to pull off.

That’s the idea behind a new featurette about the costume work in “Days of Future Past.” With a good portion of the movie taking place in the ’70s, the costumers needed to put every actor on screen, especially Lawrence, in fabulous and believable period clothing.

The scene that the featurette examines specifically takes place in an airport in Paris. As you probably already know, Wolverine’s consciousness is sent back in time, so that he can unite the X-Men and stop an apocalypse overrun with Sentinels. Once he convinces a young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) to join his cause, the future leader of the X-Men goes to recruit his former friend Raven (Lawrence) in Paris.

Charles tells Mystique that he’s seen their future. “We can change them,” he says referring to non-mutants. “First, we have to change ourselves.”

“I know exactly what I have to do,” Mystique replies.

From what we’ve seen of the ultimate mutant team-up movie, Mystique will play a much more significant role than she has in previous movies. That promotion doesn’t exactly seem like a coincidence given how popular Lawrence has become recently thanks to the “Hunger Games” movies, but I’m not complaining.

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens in theaters on May 23.
