Kendrick Lamar And Imagine Dragons Get All ‘Hunger Games’ For Grammy Team-Up

There are a lot of questions leading up to the 2014 Grammy Awards on Sunday, one of them being: What the hell will Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons be doing onstage together?

The introspective rookie rapper and alternative rockers are scheduled to take the stage during the televised portion of the awards ceremony to perform the band’s “Radioactive” single and the MC’s chaotic coming-of-age album cut “m.A.A.d city” according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s profile on Lamar, which was published on Friday (January 24). It’s the latest Grammy mash-up, a yearly tradition that has paired artists like Eminem and Elton John in the past.

The unlikely collaborators rehearsed in Las Vegas earlier this month while most were in town for the 2014 CES convention. “In a perfect world, it would be like the ‘Hunger Games’ and at the end, me and Kendrick would light on fire,” Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds told the THR reporter about his vision for the performance.

We’ll have to wait until Sunday to see what they ultimately come up with, but the rehearsal was described as an apocalyptic riot scene that may or may not include flashing lights, Molotov cocktails, cannons and a waterfall.

There was also a debate over whether the band should bring in a real or synthetic string section, until Kendrick laid down the law. “Don’t go against your own sh–,” he was quoted as telling the band. “I don’t want anybody to do anything fake.”
