Wayne Coyne has collaborated with everyone from Ke$ha to Neon Indian, and now he’s adding yet another unlikely duet to his roster: Miley Cyrus. Yup, the queen of covers (and tongue-wagging) took to the stage on Saturday at the Staples Center in L.A. with the Flaming Lips frontman to perform a rousing cover of beloved Lips classic, “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.”
“I hope I can inspire you guys as much as the Flaming Lips have inspired me,” Cyrus cried into the crowd before Coyne trotted onstage holding a balloon spelling out “f— yeah.”
“[They] encouraged me to always be myself and to make music because I love it and always invent something new for my fans!” she said.
The two — along with Steven Drozd — then performed the Lips hit not once, but twice!
Despite the seeming incongruity of the moment, Cyrus is no stranger to covering jams by what one might call “more seasoned” acts. Sure, she’s lent her talents to covers of contemporaries like Lana Del Rey and the Arctic Monkeys, but her history of cribbing on other bands gets pretty canonical.

Everyone’s celebrating the Outkast reunion — especially Miley. She busted out a cover of “Hey Ya” during her BANGERZ tour that had the whole audience whipping out their camera-phones. No polaroid pictures made an appearance, though, sadly.
Dolly Parton
“Jolene” is a frequent cover favorite of the former Disney Star — and a nod to her Southern roots.
Nirvana
Miley got tongues wagging — aside from her own — when she covered Nirvana‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Bob Dylan
Cyrus showed her more subdued side with this cover of Dylan’s “You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go.”
Billy Idol
Miley’s career of late has basically been a “rebel yell” — as she has been separating herself from her Hannah Montana persona — so it’s only fitting that she covered this Billy Idol banger.

David Bowie
A song about changes by the rock star chameleon himself seems apropos for the metamorphosing pop star.
Bikini Kill
Either Miley should cover Kathleen Hanna or Kathleen Hanna should cover Miley (“4X4” in particular) — this just needs to happen.
Green Day
I’m pretty sure Miley and Billy Jo had the same haircut at some point.

During their trippy phase, obviously.
