Need To Know: Shirley Temple Dead At 85, Mariah Carey Announces New Single

Tuesday brings announcements of both sad deaths and uplifting new art. While the world mourns a passing of a legendary child star, Julia Roberts grieves the loss of her half-sister, and we anticipate new music from Mariah Carey as well as a sequel to a favorite flick. Here are today’s top stories.

Shirley Temple Dead At 85
The iconic child star, whose characters continue to charm audiences 80+ years after their origin, died on Monday night. She was 85. Though her dimples and corkscrew curls may be the first thing folks think of, it was her charisma that continues to keep Temple so relevant. We’ll be humming “On the Good Ship Lollipop” all day in her honor.

Julia Roberts’ Sister Dead Of Drug Overdose
The “August Osage County” star cancelled an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday in the wake of her half-sister’s shocking death. Nancy Motes, 37, was found in a bathtub in Brentwood, California, on Sunday, dead of a suspected drug overdose. In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, Motes opened up about her strained relationship with Roberts, saying “I love Julia absolutely, and I have no doubt she loves me.”

Mariah Carey Announces New Single
The original diva took to Twitter to announce a new single on Monday. “You’re Mine (Eternal)” will debut on Wednesday as the lead single off her May 6 album. Need some extra hype? This YouTube video should do the trick.

Channing Tatum Is Writing ‘Magic Mike 2’
After years of anticipation (and countless rewatches of the original) Tatum granted women’s wishes when he shared a photo on his Facebook page on Sunday. “What better way to start writing #MagicMike2 than with my old friend Dallas?” read the caption. Next to Tatum? A marble bust of Matthew McConaughey. Because obviously.
