People Are Mistaking Strangers’ Cars For Uber, Jumping In And Making Things Weird

Services like Uber and Lyft have no doubt changed the game in transportation. They’re quick, convenient services for the modern traveler. However, before jumping in, you need to make they’re actually for hire. Several people have been hopping into strange people’s cars, mistaking them for Uber when they’re not.

Valleywag’s Nitasha Tiku spoke to Tech Investor Ashwin Deshmukh, who said, “Basically anytime I’m pulled over on the side of the street, someone tries to hail me or just opens my car door…If I pull-up at a food truck in Williamsburg, there will be four guys asking, ‘Can you take us to Long Island?” According to Deshmukh, “The best line so far is, ‘Are you Uber? Well can you just be, can we go?’”

This is sadly not a drill or a joke. Here are some other incidences where innocent people have been mistaken for Uber:
