Have you been eagerly awaiting new music from Radiohead following 2011’s The King of Limbs? Well, you’re out of luck. The band has, however, released a brand-new app that taps into the musical landscape of their last record.
Polyfauna is a fun little tool for iOS and Android devices that allows users to navigate an ever-changing visual world while zoning out to sounds from the song “Bloom,” off of The King Of Limbs.
“It comes from an interest in early computer life-experiments and the imagined creatures of our subconscious,” the band said in the app’s description.
Upon firing up the app, you will be tossed into a colorful landscape that grows and changes as you move your phone. You can follow a mysterious red dot through the landscape or draw on the screen with your finger to manipulate the scene. There’s also a camera function so that you can capture your creations.
Created by Radiohead, Nigel Godrich, artist Stanley Donwood and Universal Everything, the app is reminiscent of Bjork’s Biophilia album app, which featured games and visual landscapes for each song on the record.
I recommend checking out this app if you’re in need of a serious zone-out — one even more intense than can be afforded by listening to “Lotus Flower” on repeat or watching Thom Yorke dance.
