Safety Official Commits Suicide In South Korea After K-Pop Concert Tragedy

The government official responsible for the safety of attendees at a K-pop concert where 16 fell to their deaths has committed suicide.

Sixteen concert-goers died after falling 60 feet through a ventilation grate at a festival in Seongnam, South Korea, yesterday (October 17). The official appointed to ensure the safety of the first Pangyo Techno Valley Festival was found dead today (October 18) at 7 a.m. local time. He jumped from a 10-story building, police confirmed.

The official, whose surname was Oh, left a brief note behind for his wife. It read, “I am sorry for the dead victims… Please take good care of my children.”

In addition to the 16 victims who passed away, 11 more attendees were seriously injured in the fall after they climbed atop a ventilation grate that could not hold their weight.

Festival-goers were watching the girl group 4Minute perform when the tragedy occurred.
