‘Terminator: Genesis’ Begins Filming: Our Hopes, Dreams And Fears

Skynet is officially going back online. That’s because “Terminator: Genesis,” the start of a proposed new trilogy based on James Cameron’s sci-fi series, has begun filming. The new tale of time travel and killer robots stars Emilia Clarke from “Game of Thrones,” Jason Clarke and Arnold Schwarzenegger returning as the T-800 that started it all.

With two disappointing installments in a row, director Alan Taylor (“Thor: The Dark World”) has a chance to turn around the “Terminator” franchise with an action movie that harkens back to what we loved so much about the original and its sequel.

Now that cameras are rolling on “Terminator: Genesis,” these are my hopes, dreams and fears for the movie that premieres on July 1, 2015.

Hopes
» Of everything I’d like to see put back in the “Terminator” franchise, the heart of “Judgment Day” is what is in most need of a reboot.

» Jason Clarke is on the verge of an enormous and well-deserved breakout with “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.” Please don’t ruin this for him.

» Same goes for Emilia Clarke!

» Arnold has had a hard time reestablishing himself as an action star in his post-gubernatorial career. Maybe going back to what worked the first time will help.

Dreams
» Is too much to ask for a T-1000 cameo? Robert Patrick can’t be that busy.

» Let’s get a little crazy with the time travel. Instead of just having robots sent back, let’s follow someone through the time portal that makes you lose your clothes. The fact that John Conner is older than his mother suggests we’re going to see just that.

Fears
» Please, nothing like this.

“Terminator: Genesis” opens in theaters on July 1, 2015.
