The CW Renews ‘Arrow,’ ‘Vampire Diaries,’ And More

Good news, fans of young hot people with relationship troubles: The CW has officially announced early pick-ups for five of its TV shows, guaranteeing new seasons for “The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals,” “Supernatural,” and “Reign.”

According to a statement by CW president Mark Pedowitz, “This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years. The Vampire Diaries is #2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.”

Point being, don’t expect a lot of change on The CW’s schedule next year other than for still-to-be-renewed shows “Hart of Dixie,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Tomorrow People,” and “The Carrie Diaries.” Presumably, with “Arrow” spin-off “The Flash” looking promising, and new shows like “Star Crossed” and “The 100” still in the offing, one of the previously listed hour-longs won’t make it to Fall.

This is a show of faith for a surging show like “Arrow,” as well as a chance for “The Originals” and “Reign” to work out their first season kinks. Meanwhile, “The Vampire Diaires” moves into a sixth season, and “Supernatural” — which may get a spin-off of its own next season, set entirely in Chicago — moves into season 10.

Hopefully, Dean and Sam can finally work out their issues this next year. Fingers crossed.

Which show are you most looking forward to having back? And where would you like to see them go next?
