This Backstreet Boy Wants A ‘Sit-Down’ With Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber may count Usher and Drake among his celebrity “big bros,” but it looks like Backstreet Boys‘ A.J. McLean wants to throw his hat in the ring for a mentorship role.

The 36-year-old BSB vet, who rose to fame in the late ’90s and later fought a public battle with substance abuse, told People magazine that he plans to “reach out to Justin,” after the 19-year-old was arrested under suspicion of DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license.

Through Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, McLean said he hopes that he and Bieber can “have a sit-down, take him under my wing, and tell him what it was like for me at that age, and maybe see if he will actually hear me.”

In an interview with the mag, McLean said that he suspected part of Bieber’s troubles could stem from his entourage.

“Who knows who he’s surrounding himself with that are egging him on, no pun intended,” McLean said. Earlier this month, Los Angeles police raided Bieber’s home after the 19-year-old was accused of egging a neighbor’s property.

“One of the first things I would say is one of the tattoos that I have on me that says, ‘What are you doing?’ ” McLean said. “Are you trying to prove something to yourself? Are you trying to prove something to the press or the media? Are you trying to flip everyone the bird and say, ‘I can do what I want!’? Or are you trying to ask for help and you’re not going about it the right way? This could be a cry for help for all we know.”

Following Bieber’s Miami arrest, the singer tweeted to his followers: “YOU ARE ALL WORTHY NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS>>BE STRONG GOD IS WITH US ALL>MY BELIEBERS CHANGED MY LIFE>I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL.”
