This ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Clip Plays Like A Sci-Fi ‘Indiana Jones’

The conversation about “Guardians of the Galaxy” so far has been dominated by the things that make it different from every other Marvel Studios movie. Sure, it takes place in space with lesser known characters, but if the first clip proves anything, it’s that “Guardians of the Galaxy” fits perfectly with the Marvel brand of fun and exciting movies.

The exclusive look at the upcoming space epic starring Chris Pratt premiered during MTV Movie Awards Takeover as a part of a special look at “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

The clip gives a taste of the film’s unique tone and how easily it shifts from action to comedy and back again.

The Orb
From what we know of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” story so far, this little ball is going to play a big part. It’s unclear whether the artifact that Star-Lord so artfully pulls from its pedestal is one of the Infinity Stones teased in “Thor: The Dark World,” but it’s certainly powerful enough that some of the universe’s most dangerous bad guys want to get their hands on it.

The scene has the feel of a sci-fi “Raiders of the Lost Ark” with a more high-tech method for grabbing the loot. That being the case, of course Star-Lord needs a thrilling escape.

The Helmet
Getting held up by Korath (Djimon Hounsou) probably wasn’t great for Star-Lord’s ego, but he responds with a pretty badass escape. He drops to the floor, throws on his signature helmet and rockets out of there with boosts hidden in his boots.

The masked look played a big part in bringing Star-Lord back into the comics in the late 2000s, helping to redefine the classic character. Also, the headgear just looks cool. In the clip, we can see how the movie version is activated and comes together to cover Pratt’s face.

The Jump
Later in the clip, Star-Lord shows that he’s more than a dude with guns and a sweet helmet. The man has some hops.

It’s unclear whether this comes directly after Star-Lord’s escape from Korath, but it looks the half-alien has some tricks up his red leather sleeves.
