Trick Daddy Arrested On Drug And Weapons Charges

Trick Daddy has been off of rap’s radar for some time now, but police have been paying close attention to the “I’m a Thug” spitter, and on Thursday, they arrested him at his Florida home.

According to a police report issued to MTV News on Friday (April 4) by the Broward County Sheriff’s office, the veteran rapper was hit with charges including possession of a firearm, possession of ammo, possession of cocaine and driving with a suspended license, after authorities searched his home Thursday.

The Broward County Drug Task Force, who had a warrant to search Trick’s (born Maurice Young) house, were performing surveillance on the residence when they stopped the rapper as he attempted to pull out of his driveway. During a search of the home, the task force allegedly found approximately 1 gram of cocaine, a 9mm pistol and a box of ammunition. (Because Trick is a convicted felon, he is not allowed to own any guns.)

The rapper was released Friday morning on a $6,100 bond, according local news site GossipExtra.com.

Trick rose to national fame in 1998 when he released his gold-selling breakout LP, www.thug.com, independently on Slip-N-Slide Records. His biggest hit would come alongside Lil Jon and Twista on his 2004 single “Let’s Go,” which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

TD’s last album, Finally Famous: Born a Thug, Still a Thug, was released in 2009, the same year he announced that he was suffering from Lupus. He has been largely absent from the music scene since.
