Of the big superhero movies scheduled (or previously scheduled) to hit the big screen in the summer of 2015, Fox’s reboot of “The Fantastic Four” is the one we’ve heard the least about. While and before getting delayed, the Marvel team of Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing have beensuspiciously absent from the conversation.
Well, Variety ended some of the radio silence today, reporting that Simon Kinberg’s rewrite of the script is finished and that director Josh Trank (“Chronicle”) is expected to test actors for the roles of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman by the end of the month.
The super elastic Mr. Fantastic has been a role often associated with “Spectacular Now” breakout Miles Teller, but Variety claims he is just one of three actors testing for the part. The other two slots belong to “Game of Thrones” actors Richard Madden and Kit Harington.
When MTV News spoke with Teller last week at the Sundance Film Festival, where he premiered “Whiplash,” the actor expressed uncertainty and enthusiasm for the role.
“I’ve told you this before. I think Josh Trank is a very talented film maker,” he said. “I think that if it were all to come together and land in my pocket, I would absolutely love to put a new face and a new spin on a character, one that people have already done and do something different with it.”
As for the part of Sue Storm aka the Invisible Woman, Variety claims that franchise shortlist regular Saoirse Ronan is testing along with Kate Mara. “Girls” star Allison Williams had been previously floated as a contender, but the most recent article does not mention her.
The one part that does seem to have an actor locked down in that of the Human Torch. For months, Michael B. Jordan has been attached to the role, and he will reportedly test alongside the other contenders to gauge on-screen chemistry.
“The Fantastic Four” is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, 2015.
